I'd advise toward getting a new one. However if it is unavailable for certain reasons there's a way to access the touch screen without touching it. You have to press a certain button to activate the touch screen's menu so you can control it with the buttons.

You need a new one. When you select your starter, it asks you to touch the center of the Pokeball to confirm.

You should seriously consider getting a new DS, or send it in for repairs. You're going to be lost without the touch screen for this game, trust me. I've played through all of it already.

All I'll say is that if your DS is broken, it is best to get it repaired ASAP. You CAN, however play without the touch screen, albeit at a much slower pace than normal. If that's not your style, repairing it is the only option. Depending on the model of your DS (Original, DS Lite, DSi), color and how long you've owned it, it may be worth getting a new one than to have it repaired by Nintendo. Trust me, I know from personal experience how expensive it was when my Pokemon DS Lite broke a year ago. It cost me $60.00 USD just to have the hinge repaired while under warranty. The great thing was that the turn-around was only 5 days using FedEx 2-day delivery to the repair center in California from Hawai`i and back. If you need the number for Nintendo Customer Service it's right here: 1-800-225-3700. I understand what you're going through and it sucks. Hope you get your problem resolved soon.

Yes. The only buttons youll need to use is the control pad. Everything else is touch. But theres ways around the touch screen

Yea buy a new one. And good luc the new one and I do recomend choosing chikorita because it learns frenzy plant (I think) from the guy in blackthorn city and it can learn heabutt to try to get a heracross!
