Question for Pokemon Diamond

I know this might seem stupid but how do you enter in Action replay codes?
It says a few times to press L and R but is there soemthing else I need to do first?

Alright, first off, you need to go to the part of the action replay where it lists all of the cheats for your game. Then you go to the "add new cheat" button. When you get there, Enter the code's title, such as 999 Rare Candies. After you do that, there will be a number/letter pad on the touch screen. You will type in the code lines by touching the numbers and letters or using the d-pad. Some codes are extremely long like the poke-sav generated ones so you can update your action replay's software, click and drag the game into the "custom code list, then copy the code and paste it into the action replay's software memory. Then you connect the action replay in to the computer, click and drag the copy of the game bacl into the action replay's list. But take caution of this. When putting the game's codes back into the action replay, it will erase all of the other games yuo have on there. I'm sorry if this is too complicated for you to understand, but I'm not that good at explaining things in a very simple way.
