It really depends on your Internet Service Provider. If you use AOL, don't even ask because you can't. They block any access you have to Wi-Fi. Any other provider like Verizon does well. What you do is put your USB or Router to your computer, and go to "NWFC SETTINGS" at the Main Menu and configure it there.
If you use Norton Antivirus, turn off your Internet Worm Protection.
Any other spyware, I'm unaware of them, but you should look on Nintendowifi.com to learn about the various problems you may encounter trying to connect to Wi-Fi.
