I caught a bunch of Pokemon after I got chimchar from the professor.Shinx is a good one.Buneary is another one.After that just catch the rest to upgrade your pokedex.Buneary can evolve into Lopunny.Shinx can evolve into Luxio then into Luxray.Chichar turns into Monferno then into Infernape.

Here's what I say you should get chimchar, shinx, buizel, gible, roserade, and lucario. Here why chimchar last evovle form is a fight/fire type which is good for theelite four cause aaron has bug types,and flint has lopunny a normal type, and it can beat cynthia's lucario. Shinx's last evolve form is luxio which is also good for the elite four cause it can learn dark moves and electric good for lucion. Buizel's evole form is floatzel which can take out the rest of flints pokemon. Gible's last form is garchomp which is a good match against cynthia's(elite four champion) garchomp and it can learn some good moves. & finally roserade is a Pokemon you're really going to need to beat cynthia's gastrodon and mitolic.

Well first of all if you didnt chose chimchar as your starter the only other fire youll find through the game is ponyta so if you like ponyta your good and also try to make a well balanced team of Pokemon because after the second GYM it gets really hard all of a sudden especially with the third GYM which goes all the way to lvl 30 already so get ready for some training and if you have Pokemon you want to go on your team but are to weak and your to lazy to train them put them in the daycare as you travel ( I did this and I put a lvl 1 egg hatched buneary in there and when I came back to get him he was lvl 67)

I reccomend starting with piplup. After that it all relies on how you build your team.

Well personally I started with Piplup, but that's a little risky. I think in every game the best Pokemon to start out with is a grass type they are very good for some reason. So definitely get Turtwig as your starter. Plus grass types learn moves that recover HP so it's very good. After that I recommend just the basics like everyone else, but my friend caught a Budew in the beginning which evolves into Roselia and it worked for her. In my experiences it's best to just work with your starter forget the other, because it's better to have one level 80 Pokemon then five level 20 Pokemon because they will just get knocked out faster.

I'd recommend Turtwig. It has a number of attacks that can weaken the most types.

You can choose chimchar and gible can also be a good one and with it you can have a shinx,a graveler can also be good or a cranidos ,and a snover if you get and one haunter. All types wiil be needed as cynthia has different types

Personally I got Turtwig, cause I dig Torretra. Whichever starter, I recomend Budew, Shinx, Buneary and a few others. Because Shinx evolves into Luxray (the last evolution) and is good against some gyms... Buneary evolves into Lopunny. Teach it Thunder, Solarbeam, Hyper Beam and Blizzard and it is almost invincible!!! Budew, just give it lots of Calcium, Zinc, Iron, Carbos and etc... And use Shiny stone when it's Roselia, You've got a cool strong grass type!

I took piplup because I think that water Pokemon (starters)are strong and you don't have to train them a lot to level up.

You always want to take the water type cause they can learn the most tms
