Just smear it once, and wait 6 hours.

It takes 6 hours before a Pokemon will be at that tree... It's a pain in the rear, but that is the way it is with pokemon.

Once works.

sk8rboy answered:

Just a single batch of honey. Putting more than one on it won't quicken the process of Pokemon getting on the tree, nor will make a more rarer Pokemon appear on the tree.

Hiya! We are all friends, friend! Friends?Friends?Hmmmm? Oh,yeah! You want me answer your question? ......HAAAA!
He,he!Yes,yes it actually depends where and when you put it on.For instance, combee' are very common, cherubi' are common, burmy' are rare, and munchlax' are very rare.So it is pretty much a random Pokemon and you never know!It took me 8 days to get my burmy! So this part of the game is all about patience (which some people don't have).
If you have any more questions just post it and I'll try to help! He,hahehahe. ({}_{})
