Ook my name is josh my friend has Pokemon diamond but he doesnt have wifi connection and he said that he battled someone that he did not know and she was in a different state, so my question is, do you need wifi to battle people wirelessly? If you can please tell me how. Thank you

2. They have wireless internet in their home, to which she would have had to set up his DS to access.
3. He used a hotspot to access wifi. Which he would have had to take steps to access it.
4. He doesn't have wireless internet, but he does own a wifi usb connector which he would have had to set up.
Whichever way you look at it I think if your friend is telling you he 'magically' accessed wifi without knowing it and battled someone from afar then he is lying to you. Unless he was in the same room as her (I mean technically she could have come from a different state, but they were actually battling in person.) Then there is no way he could have connected to the internet (wifi) without either a wireless internet in his home, somewhere else or a special USB wifi connector.
All DS are capable of wireless connection to the internet, you just need to have the right connection in your home.
If you want to play on wifi, but you have no wireless internet, you can buy one of the wifi usb connectors (which basically turns your computer into a wireless connection for your DS) I don't know how much they cost, but you can likely get one for under or around $40-$50. That is the only way you can really do it, unless you head to a wireless hotspot... Some McDonalds restaraunts have them but you can look up a map of them if you google the term: Wifi hotspot locations. (perhaps add your area to the search)

Well if it's someone in a different state then yes you need Wi Fi. Unless the person is like two or three feet away from you, you wouldn't need Wi Fi. He might have picked up one of his neighbors Wi Fi signals.

They most likely lied. You do need WiFi to be able to battle and trade over the internet.
