Yes, you can rest easy knowing that the honey that you have slathered on the orange tree will still be there when you save your game and turn it off. In order for any Pokemon to show up at a honey tree, not just a Wormadam, then you will have to wait a long amount of time. You will have to wait up to Twelve hours, as that is the minimum amount of time required before a Pokemon will appear. If you are lucky, then when and if a Pokemon shows up, it will be a Wormadam. There is a trainer that has a Wormadam in the game. Go south of Veilstone City until you reach Route 210. Once you arrive on route 210, you should see a woman by a fence with a big man running around. Talk to the woman and her name will be Aroma Lady Hannah, she will have a Wormadam. So now there is no need to wait.

To my knowledge Wormadam don't actually get attracted to honey trees. Its their unevolved form Burmy which does. It has to be female for it to evolve into a Wormadam as the male Burmy evolves into Mothim. Slather honey on a few trees at a time, that way if the Pokemon you are after is not on one, you have a few others to go back to and try to find it there.

Alternatively you can trade one on GTS and you will have the added bonus of the traded Pokemon being able to level up faster as it gains boosted exp points every time it battles. Doing this you also have the benefit of someone elses trainer number to give you a better chance of winning the lotto.
