HM04-strength.
You need to battle gym leader Byron, in Canalave city. He is the 6th Gym leader. Defeating him will allow you to use strength.

I think that that is the HM(hidden machine) for Strength, which is a normal type move. I think you have to beat the fifth, or sixth gym leader, then if you have the HM for strength, you will be able to use it.

Well, you need to beat the sixth gym leader in Canalave City. To do this, you obviously have to get the first give badges, which is done (obviously) after obtaining the first four badges. With that, go to the northeast corner of Pastoria City and talk to the grunt in front of that building. Chase him, beat your rival, continue chasing him, and then battle him. Once you beat him, go up a bit to talk to Cynthia and obtain the Secretpotion. With this, go to Route 210, give the Secretpotion to the Psyduck, and obtain the Old Charm from Cynthia (she comes up and asks you to deliver that to her grandmother in Celestic Town). Go through Route 210 and into Celestic Town, and then battle the grunt in the center of the town. Once you beat him, go in the cave and observe the drawing. The old woman will come up and give you HM03 Surf.
With this, go to Hearthome City and obtain the fifth badge. Then, just go to Canalave City and obtain the sixth badge.
