A nintendo event is an event where you go to different states or countries and just have fun! You can hang out, participate in tournaments and download Pokemon so head to one now!

Here are some examples:
10 anniversary pkmn game nationals
2008 darkrai movie event

A Nintendo Event is a very rare time when the Pokemon HQ sends out a signal to all people on Wi-Fi, causing extremely rare effect. This is usually the occasion when a green person stands in your pokemart and gives you for items to unlock Pokemon not even listed in the $15 Pokedex book. Instead of "482 + 8 hidden pokemon!" there are really 493 pokemon.

A Nintendo Event is an event held by Nintendo Company, or a sponsor of Nintendo. It is usually related to Pokemon, and the giving away of crucial items needed to get some legendaries such as Arceus. If you were to go to a nintendo event that was being held for Arceus, then you would receive an Azure flute. It's a special event held to get rare pokemon. But if your like me, then you will decide that you can't wait months and months for these events to come, so you'll go out an buy an action replay.

v-gamer answered:

Nintendo Events are events, sponsored by Nintendo (hence the name), which are held in real life where you are given Pokemon or Tickets in accordance with the event. For Diamond, the events will reveal the "Member's Pass" for Darkrai, "Oak's Letter" for Shaymin, the "Azure Flute" for Arceus, and I THINK all the past tickets for Pokemon such as Deoxys, Mew, Ho-Oh, Lugia, etc.

At Nintendo Events, you connect with Mystery Gift in order to obtain these items. To obtain Mystery Gift, go on the third floor of the Jubilife TV Station, and talk to the guy. For the first question, answer with "Everyone Happy". For the second question, answer with "Wi-Fi Connection". You should now have the Mystery Gift fuction on the Main Menu.

Unfortunately, Nintendo Events are only held in certain parts of the world. I believe it's only held in Japan and the United States; so if you live elsewhere and you're not traveling to attend a Nintendo Event, then you might want to buy an Action Replay so you can cheat to obtain the necessary items. (However, I also strongly advise you only use an Action Replay for that simple use; cheating too much can ruin your game.)

At the moment, Nintendo Events are held in Japan. They will be held in the United States possibly in mid 2009.
