It all depends on what Pokemon is going to hatch from the Egg. I've had some Eggs that have needed as little as 2,000 Steps to hatch. I've also had some Eggs take as much as 10,000 Steps to hatch.
If you have a Pokemon with the Ability Flame Body in your Party, it will lower the number of steps for the Egg to hatch.
