Question for New Super Mario Bros

I can't get the mini mushroom into my inventory no matter how hard I try!!! I've tried going into 1-3 a few times but that doesn't work and I can never get it!!! I wanna get into world 4 and I can't beat the boss of world 2 with a mini mushroom by butt slamming it or pounding it twice when I'm normal sized and then with a mini thing...also the red mushroom houses are NEVER open even tho I spent 5 gold star coins on them...and if they are open I can't ever get the blue mushroom. I try pause then jump but it goes to fast and I always get a shell or fire flower...Is there any way I can slow it down? Or is there a other way to get into world 4??? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can get mini mushroom to inventory only when you are mini yourself. You can beat boss as mini mario by jumping and pressing pad down. And it's too hard to know what you get from red mushroom houses.

Theres a mini in a mystery box towards the end of world 2 you can use to beat the boss and get to world 4. It took me like a million tries to do it!! Good luck!
