I am in the garden (crow) and the items I have left to find have to be found with the spirit site. But even though I have enough ingredients for a number of spells it wont let me cast any, nothing happens when I hit the spell pictures with my stylus. I have restarted the whole game again and the same thing has happened. Any ideas?

The spell casting has to be done properly, or you will just be returned to the regular game screen. If you've cast the spell properly, it should go opaque and the hidden items will be highlighted in red/orange.
Spell casting is a connect-the-gold x's in the proper order within the time limit (without lifting the stylus from the touch screen). You only need to cast the Spirit Sight once in the Garden area. You will also need to use the brush/broom and the hammer to uncover hidden items.
