Ok, I'm on the Princess Shroob boss, but I'm having trouble beating it. What level should I be on? Mario, Luigi, and the babies are all about on level 20, but I don't think that's high enough.

Its a hard boss, it took me at least 3 days until I had beaten it. I'm on level 33, but level 30 at least should do, and also look out for great items from the monster in the castle, there are a few quite good ones (eg.supreme slacks). Also after you beat princess shroob, you got to beat her twin (i think she is the real princess shroob, but you'll find out when you beat the first one), Also don't save after or before the bit when your going to shoot her ship down, It'll be pointless if you want to become a higher level or want to buy stuff.
