While Bowser is trying to tunnel under his castle(leading to the railway)Msrio & Luigi have to jump back & forth to help him. When does it end or is there an easier way to get through this. I've been jumping forever and nothing is happening.

There's a bar at the bottom right of the top screen.
As for an easier way to get this:
Bowser lights up on fire whenever Mario or Luigi lands. When the bros land, hold down the A or B button until Bowser isn't on fire anymore. You'll have less air time and more burning time.
don't just press A and B on landing. Hold them until Bowser slows down again, or until he hits a rock, in which case you need to press A and B.
