Is it possible for the second player to choose there own kart if they don't have a copy of mariokart ds.

No, if the other player does not own a copy of the game, they automatically play as Shyguy and do not get to choose their character or kart.

No, you can't. When you do DS Download play, the other players without the game are automatically Shy Guy and have the Shy Guy Standard, which is very similar to the Waluigi Standard, Stat Wise (you don't see the stats, but they are similar).

No they will always play as Shy Guy with the standard kart. The Shy Guy's color will be randomly chosen.

If you play DS Download , all players except Player One will be a Shy Guy of random color with the SG Standard.
