I'm stuck: i can't get Sam to make rope

Please help! I have been having trouble with this for multiple days!! I am currently in the cave on the second beach (with James and Sam).

Every time I ask Sam to make rope from the vines I have in the storage area, he simply says "No, I don't want to" or "Not right now, I don't feel like it". So, I try to ask James and every time he says "Uh, thats not exactly my forte! I'm going to pass!"

What do I do? I need the rope to make the raft; is there ANY other way to get/make rope? Please help me figure out how to get rope made!

James won't make you rope. Make sure Sam/Eric has water and food every day and that you haven't left uneaten fish in anyone's napsack for too long. Uneaten food spoils and makes the people snarky and uncooperative. Move back to the first cave and ask or move to another location if you can and then back and he should be more cooperative. Don't forget to ask him how he is, ONCE a day only, keep the fire lit, and give him a gift each day of a mushroom, seaweed, coconut, anything, really. Just let some time pass after doing this and he should respond. James, too, will bring you better or more food or firewood depending upon how well you treat him daily.
