Go to settings and make sure your Wireless communications is on. Back out and open FFC. It will ask if you want story mode or multiplayer. Choose multiplayer. One of the boxes will be Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Choose that and confirm it. That will take you to a screen where you can set up teams, battle with a friend , battle anyone or get bonus data. The last is where you get Igno, Frigi, and the Duna and Ryne side missions. They will be sent as fossils to your fossil lawn. Back out of everything until you can choose story mode and go get the fossils off the lawn.

Relatively soon, I would save the game, power down to close FFC, and go to settings to turn off the wireless communications until I needed it again. Having the WiFi on eats battery power like crazy. BTW, you only need the Nintendo connection to play someone if they are out of range. If you have friends over, you can turn on your wifi and choose Local Play instead of the Nintendo connection and battle or trade fossils that way. The Nintendo connection only works if you have a wireless Internet available. The Local play works whenever there's another DSi in range.

Hope this helps, as this is about the extent of my experience with the WiFi. If you have further questions, someone else is going to have to jump in. Good luck!
