How can I get my first fish to live long enough to reproduce and be sold so that I can get past the first batch of eggs?

Well, it sort of works like this - once fish are old enough to breed (age 20), breed them with fish that have extremely similar bodyshapes (like a stickfish with a shark), until you raise enough money to either buy more eggs or the vitamin supplements. Fish that are bread with much different fish will not live until you max out the fish enviroment. If the fish are dying before they reach maturity, if you can afford it use the vitamin supplements, use them Alternitavely, the growth hormones will speed up the aging process (though early in the game, they will end up killing your fish if you aren't researching the fish enviroment). Hope this helps.
