Um this is tought but I guess the only thing that you can do. Refight the salamander I guess, and make sure next time you are on the way to the kracken have a bunch of gold needles. Thats the only thing I can think of because I had to do something very similar to what you are in right now. Im sorry that this is much of a help, but it's the only thing that I can think of.
Dude refight the salamander and if you have an action replay use the infinite gil cheat and buy 99 gold needles that is wut I did
What I did was use the 1 hit kill and the infinite health cheat on the action replay
