Nah. All you can do is jump up and hit him. Don't use any magicites because they wont effect him. When he sends out that tail of fire, keep hittin it so you 'resist' it. I used tons of cures wen I fot him also...
If he wants to send out that ''tail of fire' just take the magicite....
Then hit him much times.
And if he drops that magicite just take it again
I know is old, but for those who wanna know how to rescue Al is pretty easy. He will throw one Fire Magicite for a few times, if you take it, there will be no "tail of fire", so, if you want to avoid the "tail of fire" just take the Fire Magicites everytime he drops them. And at the same time hit him as much as you can =)
If you be an archer, dubble jump and get ontop of him, the "tail of fire" thing can't hitt you, but watch out for his "meteor" spell, that can hit you
