Make the points on the star really pointy.
The star is directly above the example if you can't see it.
Draw the Outline of the star, not the usual way you think to draw a star - it took me Many tries and Much frustration to determine this - and nothing on the internet told me. I thought the problem was just my shaky hands, or not pointy-enough points on the star or not straight enough or completely covered lines. And the only walkthrough I've found online skips this puzzle entirely. Grrr.
When I tried outlining the star, I thought to just trace it out with the lines going through the star and stuff. I don't know if others had the same problem, but you need to make sure to only trace the outer line of the star. Exaggerating the points on the star helped as well.
