I'm a beginner at dawn and can't seem to get past grimmon how do I succeed

You have to train up your digimon until at least one of your digimon is in Champion form. I would recommend training Lunamon in Thriller ruins.

You must train your Pokemon until they are champpion for me I made all of them champion before going to fight you should train in the limit valley as that place contains the highest exp so far. You should also try to have attacks that hit multiple zones because grimmon takes up 3 zones meaning that if you have like firamon's flame dive then you will hit him 2 times as normal
Ijust gave a lv 24 corna mon a bunch of sheilds so he had +53 defense
I had a team of firamon angemon seadramon and growlmon and I used multiple zone attack that helped me a lot
