Nook will have some in his inventory on certian days. Check the buliten board for a nook notice that has the word painting:-)

You have to join red's "gang" when he comes he usually has some artwork in his tent which is found outside The Town Hall, it usually costs alot though to join and to buy the art.

You have to buy it from red (the fox that comes in once a week in a tent in front of town hall.)

You have to get yourself a painting, talk to Blathers and choose donation. Then give him the painting. If it is a counterfeit then he will not accept it and you will be annoyed but if it is genuine then he will accept the painting and you will have a new addition to your museum!

First you need to buy the painting off of Redd (A fox who comes to your town on a random day Mon-Fri 6am-12am) and give it to Blathers at The Museum like a bug or a fish.
BEWARE:
Redd will sometimes sell you fakes paintings instead of real ones! And Blathers will not exhibit fakes!

everyone else is right if it is counterfit and blathers does not accept it and you also have the insurance from lyle (the second set of insurance costing 6000 bells) you can give it to him for money!

You have to join Redd's 'family' first, which will cost you a pretty penny. But he has some pretty interesting items.
Usually his paintings will be counterfit, which gets irritating. When you buy the painting go to Nook's and check if there is a new painting in your catalogue. If not, sell it straight away. If you get it checked by blathers and it's a fake, then Nook will pay less money. If there is a new one, donate it to Blathers. He'll be thrilled.
This takes time and bells, but the satisfaction is worth it when The Museum is complete.

Once you get close to Redd, he sells paintings. However every time I buy them they are always fakes, but sure he sells the real ones, too. Expensive, save your Bells!

Save your money get real ones you cannot make them go to REDD when he is in your town once a week you will see him in a tent .
