Question for Animal Crossing: Wild World

When I was play Animal Crossing Wild World, some of my neighbors said I should add more 'rooms' too my house. How do you get more rooms? Because I'm only expanding. But I'm only on my 3rd upgrade...

They think you should expand your house more.You don't have to but if you want to expand further you need to pay off your mortgage.
