Go into the shop daily and buy things, or get a friend from another town to buy something from your shop, that will help.

To get nook "n" go (which is the 1st upgrade) you have to spend 25,000 bells
To get nookway (which is the 2nd upgrade) you have to spend 90,000 bells
To get nookingtons (which is the final upgrade) you have to spend 240,000 bells and have a friend visit your store and buy something.
