Money tree

I planted a tree using money (with the golden shovel). I have had it for a while and it is not actually doing or giving me anything. Is it supposed to or is it just a waste of 10.000 bells?

It will rarely do it but it happens. When I planted money trees, i'll use 30,000 bells. Try it again, and don't forget to water it every day, you have a better chance if you do.
