Meowth is one of the best starters.(you can be him being a boy only,quirky nature).His ability pick up, he picks up an item almost every time he enters a new floor in a dungeon, as long as he isnt holding anything.Also, when he reaches LV:18, he learns Pay Day.

When you faint a Pokemon with it, money will be where the Pokemon was before it died.it usually drops about 100 Pokemon money, it's a very useful attack.

Two more things, after you beat Rayquaza and the credits roll, someone will come to your house and tell you something has happened to snubbul, it evolved.You go to light cave to evolve, but only when you are alone. The next time you try to go to a dungeon, your partner will talk to you about letting other members of the team do some work and you will be able to send your partner to it's friend area and go to light cave.

You will also be able to change leadership by going to the pokemons friend area, talking to it and selecting join team. Then talk to it again and select make leader., Last thing, you can find wild meowths in Western cave, it's one of the last caves, and toughest caves in the game.Its 99 floors long with mewtwo at the end.Meowths friend area is entergetic forest.
