If you see the person behind you with a red shell make sure you have a banana, bob-omb, green shell or red shell. When they fire it wait for it

to appear appear on the bottom screen and then dangle the banana, green shell or red shell behind until the red shell hits it. Make sure you are not going around a corner or it will just hit you on the side.

If you are on the wfc and therefore can't dangle by holding the l button then drop the banana just before it hits you or fire the shell backwards by pressing down while you fire it.

Don't dangle a bob-omb or it might blow you up (never tried it, but just don't).

The last methos is the bob-omb method which is thebest on the wfc as it has a large range. Simply drop the bob-omb behind you by pressing down and firing as the red shell is coming and will be destroyed.

If you have none of these weapons (fake item boxes don't work) then turn sharply around a corner if there is one, (the u-turns at yosi circuit are best)and the red shell will hit the barrier and be destroyed because red shells don't bounce. The corners at baby park don't work, shells go over them. When turning don't drift to make it as sharp as possible. Snowmen are alo very good at destroying red shells so N64 Frappe Snowland is a good anti-redshell course.

A bob-omb could be used on blue spiny shells when they rise up and are just about to drop down and explode, but this takes careful timing and best method by far for dodging blue shells is to use a mushroom as it rises up to drop on you.
