Free Techs
You know those techs that take 2 or 5 turns to research, reasearch the ones that take a long time and set your cities focuses to science. Build libraries and universities. Use the Diplomacy screen and buy techs for real cheep like writing for 10 gold. Check all the leaders and buy the tech you want from them for the lowest price.
