Introduction

This was the second hockey game I have purchased this year and the first hockey game from 2K that I have ever bought. I was simply amazed when I started playing and I am still thrilled by the greatness of this game. It has a great franchise mode, nice graphics, great sounds, and great online. What more can you ask for?

Graphics

The graphics in this game are not top of the line but they are good enough to look like they are made for a next gen console such as the 360. The players faces and hair vary from players while some of the star players look better than the more unknown players. This is reasonable but it is unfair to the players who do not get as much press and end up being wrongly portrayed. The ice in 2K7 looks very nice and it wears down through a period. I enjoyed the graphics but the players are poorly done and the coaches are awful so the score is only a 7/10.

Sound

The sounds in the gameplay are great, but the soundtrack just sucks. When I ring one off the post I want to hear the ding and When I nail a guy into the boards I wanna hear the crunch, and NHL 2K7 delivers. The only problem I have is with the soundtrack which is based on one genre, rock. Thankfully the soundtrack is customizable and you can use the music saved on your HDD for your own custom soundtrack.

Gameplay

The gameplay is extremely fun and is fairly realistic. It has basic hockey controls unlike NHL 07 but I prefer them this way as you can control more aspects of the game. I like how you can set up your plays in the offensive formation and your defensemen will take part in it like in real hockey. Another nice feature is being able to have your defensemen pinch or release a forward for a breakaway. This adds more strategy to the game resulting in more fun.

Lastability

This can last you until the next edition comes out because of the great franchise mode, the online play and the party/battle mode. The online mode has regualr ranked matches with leaderboards and it has leagues. The online leagues let you participate in a type of online season where you play other users. The battle mode is great fun when you just want to fool around and is great if you have friends over. The franchise is the meat of the game where you control a team and try to make them as successful as possible.

Overall

Overall this game has given me tons of fun and it has enough game modes and good achievements to keep me playing. This game should be bough by any hockey fan and should be your choice if you are deciding between EA's game and 2K's game. You get more depth for your money with 2K.

Final Score: 84%
