F.E.A.R. 3 -- Paxton Fettel as Valentines Day Love

The third installment in the F.E.A.R. Series, 3 is the direct sequel to Project Origin, and being an FPS game whose cinematics were supervised by director John Carpenter and plot development created by writer Steve Niles it is a special FPS.

New features have been added to the series -- such as a full co-op mode, an evolved cover system, and more scares -- with the game elements designed around the fact that the gamer plays as both the antagonist (Point Man) and the protagonist (Paxton Fettel) -- but that is sort of the point to the news today!

Warner Brothers Interactive Studios announced today that in honor of Valentines Day, Paxton Fettel has ditched his brother, Point Man, and is single and ready to mingle in F.E.A.R. 3's single player mode! That's right, you did not mis-read that -- Paxton Fettel will be available as a playable character in the single player campaign and will be unlocked at the end of each level after first playing through a level as Point Man!

Why is that cool? Well, mostly because Paxton Fettel offers a unique single player experience focused on his supernatural abilities giving players a new way to play through the level in a way that's awesomely different from Point Man's enhanced super soldier abilities, that is why.

In the single player campaign, Fettel will wield his telekinetic abilities to suspend, possess, stun or crush enemies, giving players a choice in who they play as in single player. Roughly translated this offers gamers additional gameplay value, and enables players to re-play a level using different powers and tactics, which is probably a good thing as it softens the blow of yet another delay in the game's release...

If you are anticipating a March 2011 release you might want to harden your resolve to accept disappointment, because word is that F.E.A.R. 3 is not going to hit game store shelves until May. Still, we get to play as a psycho and as a superfreak, so that has to make the delay a little easier to accept, right?
