MMO Wizard 101 Gamers to get In-Game Love at PAX East SuperCheats News
Massive Online Gamer Magazine and King Isle Entertainment are teaming up to make PAX East something special this year -- by giving some in-game love to those who attend in the form of a rare in-game item for the all-ages MMO.
Gamers who purchase a year's subscription to Massive Online Gamer or who sign up to create a guild on Guild Launch at the companies' booth will receive a code for a Wizard101 in-game item: the Moonlight Pony. All things considered exclusive and rare game items -- and particularly mounts -- are always a welcome thing, but in this case it is not just exclusive and rare -- it has never been offered before in or out of the game!
"We're looking forward to meeting Wizard101 players in person and hearing their stories," said Fred Howard, Vice President of Marketing at Kings Isle Entertainment. "We have some fun surprises and giveaways planned, including some very rare Wizard101 collectibles. We hope to see you there!"
Fans of the game can show off their Wizard101 love in the "Biggest Wizard101 Fan Contest," which naturally will be judged by Kings Isle and Beckett staff. There will be some great prizes we are told, as well as some exciting events which are being planned for the convention,
If you are not familiar, Wizard 101 is a Harry Potter-like MMO that has gamers playing as students at the Ravenwood School of Magical Arts, which is located on the Wizard World (the game is world-based). The Wizard City world is free-to-play for as long as players choose, while access to additional worlds has to be purchased.
There are two purchase options available to players -- Subscription-based and Pay As You Go access. Subscriptions provide access to all worlds for a monthly fee, while the free-to-play option pretty much restricts play to the world with the school on it. Prices start at $6.95 per account per month for multiple accounts on the family plan, or $9.95 per month for the regular subscription.
The Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) is a semi-annual gaming expo held in both Seattle and Boston -- called PAX Prime and PAX East respectively. Created by Jerry Holkins and Mike Krahulik -- the authors of the Web Comic Penny Arcade -- because they wanted to be able to attend an expo that gave equal attention to console gamers, computer gamers, and tabletop gamers all under one roof, so they created their own!
PAX East takes place at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center from March 11-13, 2011, and yes, Gaming Update has staff attending and we will be bringing you the news from the floor throughout the day as it happens!
