Bethesda Announces The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Unless you spent the last 5 years living in a cave in Nepal -- or working for the US Forestry Service -- you know what the words "Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion" mean, but just in case you don't, first I want to congratulate you on your return to civilization, and then I have to say: only one of the most amazing video games ever!

Okay, so it is a little dated now, and its graphical engine looks like, well, like it was created in 2006 because, well, it was! But even so, it is still one of the coolest most addictive RPG games ever! It was sick with quests but in a good way, and even though there were what seemed like an endless river of them, very few of the quests forced you to do them -- you could take your time, pick and choose, and avoid or return to them as you desired with no real penalties.

The huge open world, the almost endless list of things to do, and the raw fun of playing the game goes a long way towards explaining why it was so popular, and why it spun off its own mini-dictionary of gamespeak that often cropped up in unrelated postings online. A plethora of additional content created for the game ensured that it stayed popular and on our minds much longer than most games do today, and despite it being five years old, you can still find gamers plucking it off of the shelf at game stores based upon the recommendations of their gaming mentors.

Now fast forward to today... To now... And the fantastic news from Bethesda Softworks confirming the upcoming release of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, what they have officially declared to be the next installment in the Elder Scrolls series and the official follow up to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Did I mention that Oblivion was Game of the Year in 2006? No? Well it was!

The word from Bethesda is all good. All! Good! TESV will release on XBox 360, PS3, and Windows PC worldwide on November 11, 2011 -- hey, 11.11.11 -- Numerologists are going to have a field day with that one!

We always knew that there would be a sequel, we just did not know when, and now we know! According to the official announcement there is an announcement trailer up on the official website, www.elderscrolls.com, but it is a safe bet that we are going to be seeing a lot more on this very soon, pretty much everywhere!

And they say Monday is a bad day! This one is looking pretty good!
