2012 Game Developers eXchange Announced

The Savannah College of Art and Design's game development department announced today that it will host the 2012 Game Developers eXchange, the Southeast's premier game development conference, on May 11th, 2012 at Lucas Theatre, 32 Abercorn St. in downtown Savannah.

GDX is a daylong event, bringing together game developers, educators, students and game enthusiasts to share in the experiences of game development. The year's keynote is Dave Inscore, art director at Zynga East, the creators of FrontierVille.

"GDX 2012 is shaping up to be our best one yet. Our speakers this year will be sharing very valuable and extremely practical information about their areas of game development expertise" said Luis Cataldi, chair of Interactive Design and Game Development. "With amazing topics like the bright future of social gaming, practical game design thinking, effective real time character pipelines, sculpting extreme detail for games, the art of technical level design, and amazing opportunities for indie game developers, this GDX is not to be missed."

Now in its eighth year, GDX offers attendees a variety of sessions in which game development professionals discuss the elements of game creation. Featured presentations will include AAA independent game development, film-caliber audio design for games, state-of-the-art, real-time character development, fast and efficient rigging pipelines for AAA games and embracing blockbuster game technology. This year's speakers include:

-- Frank Delise of Autodesk
-- Jeremy Ernst of Epic Games
-- Joe Maris from Microsoft Entertainment Division
-- Matthew Steinke of Ubisoft
-- Danny Williams Zbrush Master Sculptor

GDX will conclude with Entelechy, the annual juried student show. The show will feature the best projects created in the past year by interactive design and game development SCAD students in 3-D modeling, concept art, installation art, Web design and game or interactive design-related projects.

Registration for SCAD students and alumni is $45, and general registration is $60. For more information or to register for GDX, visit
