Polyphony Confirms Hard Drive Install Option for GT5 SuperCheats News
Polyphony Digital's CEO Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed in an announcement at GameCon 2010 that GT5 would in fact support installation to the hard drive, stating that If you have at least 256MB it will work, but if you have 10 GB available you will be able to play comfortably.
The practice of allowing gamers to copy games to the hard drive on their PS3 serves several functions, the most important being to reduce load times for the games; data retrieved from the systems hard drives takes considerably less time than data loaded via the BluRay disc drive, though gamers will still need to insert the disc into their PS3 in order to verify compliance for its DRM management. Complex games like GT5 need to load additional data often, a proces that is thought to wear at the BluRay drives, and generate additional heat in the system, effects that are less taxing when the program is loaded form the hard drive.
