New Moshi Monsters Toys let you Cuddle with your Moshi
Every now and then a game comes along that is based upon an idea that serves as a fusion between one form of play and another -- and the creation of Moshi Monsters is what the old timers mean when they say that you have lightning in a bottle!
Moshi Monsters are cute and cuddly monster pets who live in an imaginary world full of challenges and missions, and who have pets of their own that they obtain by planting seeds to grow plants that will attract particular moshlings. Gamers enter the world of the Moshi, where they have their own personal flat, garden, and pets, and undertake a series of quests, while playing a wide variety of Flash-based games and collecting a wide assortment of special items.
The game -- found at its own official website called Moshi Monsters dot Com -- is free-to-play for its basic level, while full-membership (which includes the ability to turn your Moshi into a SuperMoshi secret agent) requires a small monthly subscription fee. The web-based game has really caught on with kids -- who are its intended audience -- and the fact that it is presented in a gaming world that has an emphasis upon education -- many of the mini-games that kids play there are math and spelling based -- that parents have no worries about letting their kids play there, and even encourage it!
[page-break] Some Xmas Gift Advice One of the challenges that most gamer geeks face when birthdays and holidays come around is the process of picking out a gift -- because as game geeks our first instinct is to give a game! Of course we are most likely to gift what we know best -- but Fallout: New Vegas is rarely ever a well-received gift for your 10 year old niece -- at least from her parents point of view, though we bet she will like it!
But that is not the point -- the point is that you cannot give those games to those small human things you have to buy gifts for! Well, Gaming Update has your back mates! Chances are very high that the small humans you are related to have heard of -- if not already actively play in -- the Moshi world, so we are certain they will appreciate this: For the first time in North America children can get their hands on the first ever U.S. range of Moshi Monsters toys.
A special event is being held at The World's Greatest Toy Store to celebrate the U.S. arrival of the Moshi's -- assuming that the blokes over in TSA have not arrested them all that is! Fans can visit Toys 'R' Us at Times Square in New York City this Friday (August 5th) from Noon to 3pm to join the official launch party featuring the hit brand's hot new toys.
So if you happen to live in or near New York City you might want to consider offering to babysit your sister's kids and take them to the event -- which will guarantee you scoring major points with them, right?
Of course you do not actually have to go to that store -- the full line of products, made by leading toy company Spin Master, will be available exclusively in the U.S. at Toys 'R' Us stores nationwide and online at Toysrus.com so either way you are covered.
Just drop by and ask the little ones who their favorite Moshi is, then you know what to buy, and you are totally covered as far as buying gifts for the little people in your life! Each of the toys includes a secret code that can be used to retrieve virtual items for adopted Moshi Monsters, as well as special trial memberships if they are not already playing the game, so hey, bonus!
If you happen to be able to make it to the Times Square event on Friday we should probably mention that at the event there is a chance that you can score some swag, meet some monsters, and, well, heck, here is a list of what is going down:
-- Moshi Monsters characters, Poppet and Katsuma, appearing in person -- Moshi Monsters themed face painting -- Autographs by Mr. Moshi himself (Michael Acton Smith, founder of Mind Candy) -- While supplies last, attendees will receive a complimentary Moshi Code giveaway, created exclusively for the event, of a super sparkly Liberty trophy, used to decorate your virtual room on MoshiMonsters.com (an uber cool item your little people will treasure)!
In addition to that, the first 250 event attendees have a chance to receive a special copy of the Moshi Monsters magazine... A Moshi-themed Mercedes would have been better, but nobody asked us.
