Wouldn't it be awesome if someone released a three-game set of the original Mortal Kombat games? You know, the games that set the bar and the record for arcade fighting games that pretty much everyone has been trying to beat since then? The thing is, it would have to be a totally faithful and perfect port of the arcade games -- none of that interpreted stuff that came later, we are talking the games spelled "ORIGINAL" or nothing!
Got some good news for ya Bubba -- Warner Bros. Interactive has announced the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection for PlayStation Network, Xbox LIVE Arcade, and Windows PC Woot!
For the first time ever, the original Mortal Kombat arcade trilogy -- Mortal Kombat, Mortal Kombat 2 and Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 -- have been brought together into a single collection which will be available for download in late Summer 2011. Stop hugging me man! Doods don't hug!
"We are very excited to finally have the first three Mortal Kombat games available in one download package for long-time and new fans to play," says Ed Boon, Creative Director, NetherRealm Studios in what has to be the understatement of the year for 2011...
"With the release of our 2011 Mortal Kombat, and its return to 2D game play, players have been asking for these classic titles and we are happy to deliver them," Ed explains, not mentioning the pressure gamers have been putting him under personally by stealing his lunch money and his bike until he released the games.
Developed by Other Ocean in conjunction with NetherRealm studios, the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection will offer fans the chance to play through the games in their original arcade state and rediscover all their favorite characters, fatalities and environments as well as relive some of the franchise's most memorable secrets. In addition, this new collection will feature online play, leaderboards, achievements and trophies.
You do understand how epic this is, right?
If you happen to be a purist, well, then the arcade-perfect port of the Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection will be just the ticket for you! It has a $9.99 on PlayStation Network -- assuming you know, that there IS a PlayStation Network this Summer -- and 800 Microsoft Points for XBLA. Putting that in arcade terms -- we are talking just 40 quarters ($10) here mate! You spent more than that playing one game in a sitting in the arcade, and you get to keep these and play them as much as you want to!
As if that were not enough, to help players create an arcade experience at home GameStop will exclusively offer a limited run of the new Mortal Kombat Klassic Fight Sticks designed and manufactured by Performance Designed Products (PDP), creators of the sold-out Mortal Kombat Tournament Edition Fight Sticks, bundled with a code to download Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection.
Both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the Mortal Kombat Klassic Fight Sticks are available for pre-order now for $129.99 at www.gamestop.com.
