Mortal Kombat -- commonly abbreviated as MK -- is literally a franchise surrounding the classic video game that established the series -- a game based on the popular actor / martial artist, Jean-Claude Van Damme.
Originally an arcade-style fighting game created by Ed Boon and John Tobias, MK successfully made the transition from stand-up arcade format to home gaming console, and along the way has spun-off a full-length theatrical motion picture, live-action and animated features, a television series, comic books, card games and a plethora of other entertainment offerings based upon the series.
The series is especially noted for its realistic graphics and a high levels of blood and gore, and maintains an almost cult-like following among gamers who are fans of the fighting genre. A trip to the studio and a chance to meet one of the creators would be about on par with spending a weekend hanging out with Stan Lee for a comic book fan, making this giveaway rather epic.
