Full Review of Resident Evil 4 for PlayStation 2
Previous | Next | Other Reviews for this game
Introduction
The Resident Evil series was a bench mark in the survival horror genre . For me it was and still is a series of games I always have to repeat over and over and the evolution of the series over the years has been impressive . When I first perchased a copy of Resident Evil 4 I literally could'nt put it down for months and heres why ....
Graphics
09
For the PS2 the graphics were pushed to the boundrys. The blood , the gore , the explodeing heads , all awesome indeed. The first time I went through it the attention to detail stunned me , it certainly showed how the gameing world was moveing forward from them slightly blocky pixilated characters. The Las Plagas creatures in perticular were well designed . The cutscenes were also fantastic , gripping the mood in awesome fasion and seamlessly moulding into the game play , a Resi fans dream.
Sound
09
The sound like the graphics are fantastic . One minute it will be silent and all you hear are your footsteps then suddenly the racey music kicks in and your in a battle for your life. The sound of a Las Plagas bug splitting out of it's victims head gets me everytime , the in game music is excellently placed and sets the mood perfectly.
Gameplay
10
The gameplay is fantastic not only is there danger round every corner but your not even safe in the cutscenes . For first time players I'm nearly a 100% certain that the first scene after the the intro which agen you must survive will have you panically assaulting the joypad for survival. The gameplay grips you and keeps you pressing forward , the story makes you want to become the ultimate badass just so you can see more and the new enemys which pop up every couple of chapters are sure to keep you on your toes.
Lastability
10
The lastability of this game is flawless. There are new difficultlys to unlock upon completion , new costumes and new modes . You get to play five missions as Ada after you complete the main story and a side mission also as Ada where you must collect Las Plagas samples. There are plenty of new weapons to unlock and of course not forgeting the epic mercenaries mode which when unlocked will let you play timed battles as Wesker , Krauser and even Hunk . All in all plenty of features to keep you comeing back for more.
Overall
10
Overall I would happily give this game 10 out of 10 for the pure fact that it deserves just that. Some say the Resident Evil series lost it's way by changeing things like Las Plagas instead of the old T-virus and G-virus, but simplely put it has'nt it has simplely evolved and rightly so . Capcom just keep churning out awesome games and I believe there will be many more.
