The only place you are safe from attack is in the finishing zone and when you start the next level. Therefore if you need to heal, craft something or just leave the game for a while and are not in either of those two zones it is advised that you find some high ground and move to it as most of the enemies won't be able to reach you there.

Be cautious when you see a wall with a sign on it, it can either lead to a secret chamber or be a trap. If you decide to investigate make sure you look around frequently as you walk towards it.

It is important that you use special attacks wisley as they permanently reduce your stamina. If you do overuse your special attacks you will find it impossible to continue the fight as you will need to eat food, prefably rotten food in order to replenish your health bar.

You will not survive very long if you just run mindlessly into a group of enemies. Each of your foes has limited sight range so a good tactic is to lure them out one after another.

The best tactic is to continuously move back and wait for the opponent to get close to you. Remember though when you are retreating to always retreat to a place where you were previously so you avoid encountering another group of enemies.
