Minecraft Achievements

As you begin playing the game and you perform an action you may notice that a box pops up declaring that you have succeeded in completing an Achievement!  Well done!  It is not only the Xbox 360  LIVE Arcade version of the game that includes Achievements, the other platforms have them as well!

Notch has publicly said that he not only likes Achievements, but views them as a way to add missions or goals in the game,  which is why the actual Achievements window in the game requires players to unlock the first Achievement in a tree in order to see the goals of those that follow.

To see your completed Achievements simply enter the Pause Menu (Escape on the PC Keyboard) and click on the box marked "Achievements" to get a window displaying both the unlocked and the locked!

In-Game Achievements

(01) Benchmarking -- "Craft a workbench with four blocks of planks!"

(02) Getting Wood -- "Attack a tree until a block of wood pops out."

(03) Taking Inventory -- "Press 'E' to open your inventory."

(04) Time to Mine -- "Use planks and sticks to make a pickaxe."

(05) Getting an Upgrade -- "Construct a better pickaxe."

(06) Hot Topic -- "Construct a furnace out of eight stone blocks."

(07) Delicious Fish -- "Catch and cook fish!"

(08) Acquire Hardware -- "Smelt an iron ingot."

(09) On a Rail -- "Travel by minecart at least 1 km from where you started."

(10) DIAMONDS! -- Acquire diamonds with your iron tools."

(11) Enchanter -- "Use a book, obsidian and diamonds to construct an enchantment table."

(12) Librarian -- "Build some bookshelves to improve your enchantment table."

(13) Overkill -- "Deal eight hearts of damage in a single hit."

(14) We Need to go Deeper -- "Build a portal to the Nether."

(15) Return to Sender -- "Destroy a Ghast with a fireball."

(16) Into Fire -- "Relieve a Blaze of its rod."

(17) Local Brewery -- "Brew a potion."

(18) The End? -- "Locate the End."

(19) The End -- "Defeat the Ender Dragon"

(20) Time to Farm -- "Use planks and sticks to make a hoe."

(21) Bake Bread -- "Turn wheat into bread."

(22) The Lie -- "Wheat, sugar, milk, and eggs!"

(23) Time to Strike! -- "Use planks and sticks to make a sword."

(24) Monster Hunter -- "Attack and destroy a monster."

(25) Sniper Duel -- "Kill a skeleton with an arrow from more than 50 meters."

(26) Cow Tipper -- "Harvest some leather."

(27) When Pigs Fly -- "Fly a pig off a cliff."

Achievement Trivia

-- The Achievement "On A Rail" is an homage to the game Half-Life (of Orange Box fame), being the name of one of the levels in that game.

-- The Achievement "The Lie" is an homage to the platforming game Portal (of Orange Box fame), referencing the cake in the game that the player is promised for doing a good job.

-- The Achievement "We Need To Go Deeper" is an homage to the movie Inception.
