2K5 is slamfest baseball game that brings the baseball aspect of baseball, back into the game of baseball. The best GM Mode I have seen in any sports game ever. You can earn tokens to unlock skyboxes, cheats, players, classic teams, all sorts of different things.
I have to say the graphics are not the best, the facial shots of real life baseball players don't really even look enough like the actual players, the gloves and jerseys kinda look crappy. But, the bats look awesome, the dirt flying in the air from a runner sliding, and the motion of pitching and batting all look sweet.
Wonderful sound. From the crack of the bat hitting the ball to the roar of the hometown fans when their team scores a homerun, or a grandslam, to the umpire calling strikes and balls, to the announcers just having a good old time talking away about the game as well as the batters and pitchers.
The gameplay is great. My wife and I both have spent hours on end just playing the game in our own GM Modes and having a blast. Every 3rd inning has a little trivia question about the hometeam of each game that awards you tokens if you get it right. Just amazing.
However it is also easy to just want to simulate part of each season just to hurry up and get to the playoffs and world series.
This game has an incredibly wonderful lastibility aspect. If you're playing GM Mode you choose which team you want to sign with as the General Manager, and you are given goals for each new season to complete, and you get to choose your own coaches if you wish for both the Majors and the Minors, AND you get to choose when to promote a minor to the majors and demote a majors to the minors. It's AWESOME!!!!
Overall this game is alot of fun to play. It definately needs some, and I put the emphasis on some, improvements in gameplay. This game also needs major improvements on graphics as far as the players and jerseys aspect of the game. Aside from that I love this game, and I think it is definately worth the buy if you're looking for a good game to play if you are new to the video game baseball like myself. So go ahead and buy it.
