You don't find them naturally on normal minecraft. You find the seeds in abandoned mine's chests.

In pocket edition you can get them in the nether reactor core...but to activate it you have to build it correctly

If you have a full grown melon seed then right beside it leave a plain piece of dirt. The melon seed that you have grown should form a watermelon on that normal piece of dirt.
Ps, you have to have melon seeds, dirt, and fertile dirt.
Pps, bone meal makes your seed a fully grown seed.

All methods are overly tedious, but it also possible to luck out and habe a villager offer them for trade, you can get 5-8 melon wedges for a emerald but thats about a 1/20 chance... And it seems alot harder then that I've been trying it myself
