For the Battle mode option you need to complete the game sucessfully with West and the East, this will allow you to unlock an option at the menu screen that will allow you to choose your battle mode.

To play as the West you need to complete the game sucessfully with the East.

UNLIMITED SPECIAL MANUVER+INVINSIBILITY

During gameplay, pause the game and hold L1+L2+R1+R2 and press down, left, up, right, x, circle, triangle, andd square quickly.

Then without un-pausing or saving your game, restart your ps2. Then load your game and you will have unlimited special mavuever and invinsibility.

Play as the West

Successfully complete the game with the East.

Battle mode option

Successfully complete the game with the East and the West and a new battlemode option will be unlocked on the menu. Thus mode allows you to fight any preivous battle, with either East or West.
