I. Introduction [INTR]
==============================================================================

Grinsia plays like an old-school JRPG, with top-down view and turn-based
fighting. You start the game as the older child in a family of treasure
hunters. Your father and little sister are along for the ride. What hidden
treasures will you find, and how does that tie in to your saving the world?

==============================================================================
II. Characters [CHAR]
==============================================================================

(main)
A dashing young Treasure Hunter who only says "yes" or "no." A good melee
fighter, and lightning fast if properly equipped. Keep him in the front row.
Weapon: sword.

Grieg
The burly head of the family. This Warrior would be a tank if he had better
defense. Front row melee fighter. Weapon: axe.

Milka
The youngest and chattiest of the family. She's a versatile Archer with decent
attack and a range of moderate healing and offensive magic. Keep her in the
back row. Weapon: bow.

Elysha
A brave Shrine Maiden of Mave. She can heal and do buffs. Strictly a back row
character. Weapon: staff.

Dingo
Young Pirate leader. Does some damage and is reasonably quick, but his stats
are easily surpassed by other characters. Keep in the front. Weapon: knives.

Oleana
An aloof Scholar. Also an offensive magic powerhouse, especially at higher
levels. Her physical attack is weak. Keep her busy chanting in the back.
Weapon: book.

*** Optional Characters ***

Lauren
An honorable Imperial Knight. Strong and slow front line fighter. Weapon:
sword.

Hero
A caped and visored Lemming with four accessory slots. His stats are awesome.
Keep in the front row. Weapon: none.

==============================================================================
III. EX Skills [EXSK]
==============================================================================

The Divine Treasures in Grinsia can be equipped as accessories. Equipped
characters will then have an EX Gauge under their HP and MP bars. When the EX
Gauge fills via regular attacks, the characters can use the EX Skill of the
Treasure. You can also combine the treasures for stronger skills. The EX
Skills are:

Accelerate
----------
Increases attack, speed, and defense of all allies. (Treasure of Light)

Regenerate
----------
HP of all allies recovers slowly for five turns. (Treasure of Water)

Mirage Body
-----------
Evasion rate of all allies greatly increased for three turns. (Treasure of
Wind)

Aegis Shield
------------
Enemy attacks completely ineffective for one turn. (Treasure of Earth)

Cremate
-------
Fire element high physical damage on one enemy. (Treasure of Fire)

Destruct
--------
Inflicts huge no-element damage on all enemies. (Treasure of Darkness)

World's End
-----------
Several magic attacks on a random enemy. (Treasure of Light, Treasure of
Darkness)

Soul Steal
----------
Inflicts damage on all enemies, and absorb HP. (Treasure of Earth, Treasure
of Water)

Revive
------
Automatic revival when unable to fight. (Treasure of Fire, Treasure of
Water)

Riot Rave
---------
5-8 physical attacks on a random enemy. (Treasure of Fire, Treasure of Wind)

Treasure Blow
-------------
100% item drop when fatal blow is delivered with this. (Treasure of Fire,
Treasure of Earth)

Refresh
-------
Recovery and recovery from abnormal states for all allies. (Treasure of Wind,
Treasure of Water)

Death Cloud
-----------
Damage and 'Sudden Death' on all enemies. (Treasure of Wind, Treasure of
Earth)

==============================================================================
III. Walkthrough [WALK]
==============================================================================

First, some quick tips:

+ The autoattack button on the upper right saves a lot of time during battles
  against weaker foes.

+ Go after every treasure chest! Even if the contents don't seem worth the
effort, you at least get EXP from all the random encounters.

+ Enemies drop lots of basic healing items, especially Potions.

+ After buying in stores, you get target coupons that you can use in target
ranges. The prizes get better as you advance in the game.

+ Use Magic Maps or the Map Vision spell to locate treasures faster in
  dungeons.

+ Use Safet Boots or the Safe Pain spell to avoid getting hurt on spikes or
  lava.

and into the dungeon.

After the scene, follow Milka and Grieg. Another scene follows. Leave the

The hidden entrance is in the upper right area of the cave.

Talk to everyone. Get the Pirates' Key. You can now open the silver locks
in Dea Town (Magic Bangle), the Ancient Ruins (Old Glass Bottle), and Nex
(Old Glass Bottle).

IMPERIAL FORT
-------------
Treasures: Fairy Powder, Safety Boots, Restorative Potion, Blood Save,
Power Bangle (hidden room to the right of entrance)

Defeat the Prison Guard and soldiers near the end of the dungeon, then heal!
Lauren will challenge you next.

Release the prisoner in the last cell. Back at the Pirate's Hideout, a ship
becomes available for your party, and Dingo asks to join.

You can now go to the COllector's House. See the Sidequests section for
details.

Your next stop is the village east of the Imperial Fort.

PROSE VILLAGE
-------------
Inn: 30G

Item Shop: Potion, Soothing Herbs, Cure Plums, Restorative Potion, Cure
Physical, Cure Curse, Cure Mind, Guard Oil, Quick Oil, Talisman

Thick Dictionary, Scale Armor, Robe of Calm, Quick Bangle,
             Panic Save, Paralysis Save

Talk to Oleana in the house to the northeast. Exit the village and go to
the cave to the south.

TIDE CAVE
---------
Treasures: High Potion, Soothing Herbs, Nectar, Panic Save, Shepherd Staff,
Life Bangle, Old Glass Bottle, Cure Mind

Enter the cave during the day and use a Magic Map to find all the goods. The
end of the cave opens to a spot outside with a tree. Exit the cave and return
at night. Go back to the tree and examine the sparkle. Airberries!

Go to the whirlpool west of Prose.

SHIPWRECK
---------
Treasures: Whip Sword, Restorative Potion, Fairy Powder, Magic Save,
Immortality Potion, Cure Curse, Mirage Cloak (hidden room)

Head into the interior of the ship to fight the boss, Kraken, and a couple of
stooges. The Treasure of Water is yours!

Return to Oleana, who asks to join. Sail west past the whirlpool to the town
on a large island.

TOWN OF HARVA
-------------
Inn: 40G

Item Shop: High Potion, Soothing Herbs, Cure Plums, Restorative Potion,
Cure Physical, Cure Curse, Cure Mind, Quick Oil, Magic Oil,
Luxury Cheese, Talisman Stone, Transfer Stone, Magic Map

Weapon Shop: Schiavona, Tomahawk, Crossbow, Sorceror's Staff, Maingauche,
Introduction to Sorcery, Iron Mail, Segmentator, Cape of Prayer,
Life Bangle, Water Maiden's Tears, Sylph Down, Magic Save

From Harva, you can either sail south to the Forest of Ilyuse, or southwest to
the Sandora Tribe Hometown. I recommend the Forest of Ilyuse first.

FOREST OF ILYUSE
----------------
First, stop by the small house east of the forest and talk to the old man.

Treasures: Shatter Save, Seeds of Courage, High Potion (x2), Immortality
Potion, Magic Map, Cure Mind, Remedy of Titania, Sylph Down,
Energy Bangle, Fairy Powder, Strain Heart (after boss battle)

Enter the forest and go for the treasures. When you see a box blocked by
trees, walk close and tap on the box to make your characters walk there
automatically. Make your way to a hidden village with a Porter. Find Hanson
and speak to him, then go back to his father.

Go to the Shrine of Mave and talk to the Head Shrine Maiden. She'll give the
party the Eye of Truth, which needs to be recharged by moonlight at the
spring in the Forest of Confusion. Do so, and return to the hidden village
in the Forest of Ilyuse.

Defeat the Plant Queen and her minions. You now have the Treasure of Wind!

From now on, the Eye of Truth will show hidden paths as blue lines on your
mini-map.

SANDORA TRIBE HOMETOWN
----------------------
Inn: 50G

Item Shop: High Potion, Soothing Herbs, Cure Plums, Restorative Potion, Cure
Physical, Cure Curse, Cure Mind, Blank Talisman, Magic Oil, Resist
Oil, Safety Boots, Talisman Stone, Transfer Stone, Magic Map

Weapon Shop: Scimitar, Bipennis, Composite Bow, Spiked Club, Jambiya, Heavy
Tablet, Plate Mail, Gypsy Dress, Magical Bangle, Salamander Tail,
Brownie Hammer, Curse Save, Stone Save

Speak to Ahmad and Rahab. You will be asked to get Sildra's Mark from the
Pyramid to the east.

PYRAMID
-------
Treasures: Restorative Potion, Stone Save, Resist Bangle, Brownie Hammer,
Cure-all, Miracle Aroma, Cure Curse (hidden path), Sildra's Mark

Carefully watch the direction of the sands to get all the chests. The boss
here is Ancient, with a couple of Armor Piercers. Lightning works well.

Give Sildra's Mark to Rahab (you could also give it to Ahmad). You get the
Treasure of Earth in return.

Your next stop is the Cave of Flames, to the north. Sail past the little hut
with the current leading away from it, and land the party as far west as you
can go.

CAVE OF FLAMES
--------------
Treasures: Safety Shoes, High Potion, Salamander Tail, Mithril Ore, Curse
Save, Cure Physical, Glasses of Judgment, Old Glass Bottle (hidden
           path), Transfer Stone, Soothing Herbs

The Icicle spell is effective here. Safety Boots or the Safe Pain spell are a
must. Defeat the Flame Dragon and two Wyverns for the Treasure of Fire. Only
one Treasure left!

Take the Mithril Ore to the man in the house beside the weapon shop in Harva.
He'll have you choose what weapon he'll forge from it. There will be Mithril
items in the weapon shop afterwards.

Next, go to the Ruins of Darkness, the island to the east surrounded by rocks.

RUINS OF DARKNESS
-----------------
Treasures: Old Glass Bottle, Cure Curse, Extreme Potion, Nectar, Smidgen of
Shade, Legend Plums, Revivial Potion, Miracle Aroma

Activate all the doors using the Treasures. Your party will fight Lauren.
Afterwards, the Emperor shows up.

You get the Orb of the Sea God after the cut scene. You can now go to the
Scholar's Hut, which you went past on the way to the Cave of Flames. He'll
just be surly at you, though. You could also check out the Travelers' Inn,
east of the Ruins of Darkness.

Your next stop is Imperial Castle Town, southwest of Dea and west of the
Shrine of Mave.

IMPERIAL CASTLE TOWN
--------------------
Inn: 60G

Item Shop: High Potion, Miracle Aroma, Cure Plums, Revival Potion, Cure-all,
Blank Talisman, Power Inert, Guard Inert, Quick Inert, Magic Inert,
Resist Inert, Talisman Stone, Transfer Stone, Magic Map

Weapon Shop: Katzbalger, Labrys, Gastraphetes, Iron Mace, Stiletto, Diary of
the Silent, Fluted, Talisman Breastplate, Holy Veil, Resist
Bangle, Wisp Scales, Thanatos Save, Stun Save

Speak to Avarl in the house between the inn and the item shop. He'll ask you
to rescue his daughter in Egma Mountain. Leave the town and go east and north.

EGMA MOUNTAIN
-------------
Treasures: Miracle Aroma, Talisman Stone, Book of Experience, Fairy Dust,
Thanatos Save, Nectar, Wisp Scales, Fruits of the Mystic Tree,
Old Glass Bottle, Blind Bow, Cure-all, Immortality Potion

Get all the treasures as you ascend. There's an easy puzzle near the top where
you push four stones onto tiles. Afterwards, fight off the thieves.

As thanks, Avarl will offer you the Key of Miracles...for sale. Totally worth
it! You can now get the chests behind the gold locks! See the Sidequests
section.

IMPERIAL CASTLE
---------------
You can now enter the castle, north of the town. Find the Card Key in the
right-hand area to proceed deeper inside.

Treasures: Restorative Potion, Old Glass Bottle, Goddess Scent, Card Key, High
Potion, Physical Save, Bloodsucker, Legend Plums, Seeds of Courage
Magic Map, Nectar, Extreme Potion, Resist Inert

Use Safety Boots to go over the spikes. Lauren and Asty challenge you at the
end of the dungeon. Defeat them and heal to face the Emperor.

The Emperor and his Guardians can take out the entire party if you're
unprepared. Buff your characters as much as possible, use your strongest
spells, and heal every turn.

After the scene, talk to the old man who builds the imperial warships. He's in
the house that's up the stairs and to the east. He'll alter your ship so you
can sail through reefs. You can now go to your next destination, or recruit
two new party members. Details in the Sidequests section.

SYDE VILLAGE
------------
Inn: 70G

Item Shop: High Potion, Fairy Powder, Miracle Aroma, Premier Plums, Revival
Potion, Cure-all, Blank Talisman, Power Oil, Guard Oil, Safety
Boots, Talisman Stone, Transfer Stone, Magic Map

Weapon Shop: Claymore, Battle Axe, Aiming Star, Angel's Wand, Icicle Dagger,
Dagger, Witches' Esoteric Book, Brigandine, Sorceror's Clothes,
             Energy Bangle, Smidgen of Shade

You can sail west from Harva or Sandora to get to Syde Village, past the reefs
(north of Prose, south of the Traveler's Inn). Collect the Legend Plum, exit
the village, and head west to Oracle Mountain.

ORACLE MOUNTAIN
---------------
Treasures: Cure-all, Speed Ring, Immortality Potion, Old Glass Bottle, Evil
Save, Transfer Stone, Extreme Potion, Quick Inert, Revival Potion,
           Miracle Aroma

Use Magic Maps/Map Vision to suss out where to jump for the treasures. Climb
to the top to face the Wind Dragon and Willow Wisps. Use strong spells and
physical attacks. Afterwards, step on the tile. Walk north and west out of the
cave.

HEAVENSTOWN
-----------
Inn: 80G

Item Shop: Extreme Potion, Fairy Powder, Miracle Aroma, Premier Plums,
Revival Potion, Cure-all, Mana Eraser, Quick Oil, Magic Oil,
Resist Oil, Talisman Stone, Transfer Stone, Magic Map

Weapon Shop: Bastard Sword, Halberd, Cranequin, Morgenstern, Gladius,
Grimoire, Reflex, Valkyrie Dress, Physical Save, Evil Save,
             Mental Save

Grab the treasures on the upper right and upper left corners. Head north to
the Prayer House. Then exit the village and go west to follow the long path
to the Shrine of Light, past the waterfalls.

SHRINE OF LIGHT
---------------
Treasures: Force Ring, Old Glass Bottle, Immortality Potion, Mental Save,
Mirror Fragment (x2), Goddess Scent, Golden Fruits, Miracle Aroma,
Guard Inert, Guard Oil II, Fairy Dust

Use the mirrors to transport the party to different spots. You need two Mirror
Fragments to proceed. A couple of the mirrors are encounters, not teleporters.

You get Ruksgram! With it, defeat Anrimayu and his minions! Watch out for
Spell Reflect. The Light Bringer spell works well here.

Your party receives the Heaven's Wing! You can do a few sidequests, or head to
the Bowels of the Earth via Cave of Chaos.

CAVE OF CHAOS
-------------
Treasures: Fairy Dust, Protect Ring, Berserk Mail, Magic Inert, Argent,
Miracle Aroma, Forbidden Record of Revelation, Phoenix Wing,
Barrier Ring, Extreme Potion, Cure-all, Old Glass Bottle, Nectar,
           Resist Oil

Fly to the island surrounded by currents and reefs in the southwest area of
the world map.

Prepare to be dropped through the floor on a regular basis. Wear Safety Boots
for the lava, and line up some Talisman Stones if the random encounters become
annoying. The only positive here is the fact that there's no boss at the end.

PRAYER SHRINE
-------------
This place offers free HP and MP restoration. You can also warp to other
places if you choose.

Head out and be careful -- the purple sludge on the ground hurts your party!

HIDDEN HAMLET OF DEMONS
-----------------------
Item Shop: Extreme Potion, Fairy Dust, Miracle Aroma, Premier Plums, Revival
Potion, Cure-all, Mana Eraser, Power Oil II, Guard Oil II, Quick
Oil II, Magic Oil II, Resist Oil II, Transfer Stone, Magic Map

Weapon Shop: Gaia Ring, Soul Ring, Force Ring, Protect Ring, Speed Ring,
Wizard's Ring, Barrier Ring, Laplace Ring

This place is to the west and south of the Prayer Shrine. It's so hidden, it
doesn't have a Porter. It does have nice prizes in the target range, and great
accessories for sale.

SHRINE OF ISHTRY
----------------
Treasures: Miracle Aroma, Extreme Potion, Fruits of the Mystic Tree, Power Oil
           II, Fairy Dust

You should be pushing Level 70 or above by this point, or Ishtry and her
Galley Beggars will give you trouble. Pound them with Light Bringer and your
other party members' strongest attacks.

It's not over yet!

SHRINE OF ISHTRY (INNERMOST PART)
---------------------------------
Treasures: Old Glass Bottle, Gaia Ring, Phoenix Wing, Hero's Armor, Element
Mail, Remedy of Titania, Moon Ore

This is the final battle, so go all out. Buff like crazy and spam Light
Bringer and other non-elemental or Darkness spells, to get past Ishtry's
element shifts. Keep whittling at her and use those items!

My strategy: I equipped Hero with three Divine Treasures and gave him Golden
Fruits so he could use EX Skills to protect the party. He also got Premier
Plums as needed for his Pure Divine Blow. My main character kept Light Bringer
coming. Oleana cast Calamity Star and Shadow Flare. She and Lauren kept the
items coming. In hindsight, I could've switched Lauren for Elysha. This fight
deserves your A-Team.

You've done it! Enjoy the ending!

==============================================================================
V. Sidequests [SDQS]
==============================================================================

COLLECTOR'S HOUSE
-----------------
Required event: Pirate leader rescued.

The Collector lives in the small house on the land east of Nex. He gives you
rewards for bringing him old glass bottles. For example, 18 gets you a Book of
Experience and an Ultimate Save.

GOLD LOCK TREASURES
-------------------
Required event: Key of Miracles acquired.

+ Mave Shrine (upper-right room): Book of Experience
+ Pirate's Hideout (left): Old Glass Bottle, Haunted Treasure, Thief Gloves
+ Imperial Fort (jail): Old Glass Bottle
+ Sandora Tribe Hometown (northeast): Old Glass Bottle
+ Pyramid (room near entrance): Old Glass Bottle
+ Imperial Castle Town (up the stairs, to the east): Stun Save

RECRUIT OPTIONAL CHARACTERS
---------------------------
Required event: Emperor defeated.

Lauren: Talk to the soldier in the upper left area of Imperial Castle Town,
near the entrance to the Imperial Castle. He'll tell you that Lauren
went to Harva. Warp there and find the NPC who'll tell you where
Lauren went next. Rinse and repeat, in this order: Sandora, Shrine of
Mave, Dea Town (harbor), Port Town of Nex (at night), Prose Village,
Scholar's Hut, Imperial Castle Town, Egma Mountain

Hero: The kids at Harva Town will tell you about Luxury Cheese. Buy some and
sail to Lemming Island, southeast of the Pyramid. Use the Cheese and
walk around until you encounter Hero. Defeat him to recruit him.

MOON FOREST
-----------
Required event: Heaven's Wing acquired.

Treasures: Old Glass Bottle, Fruits of the Mystic Tree, Moon Ore, Fairy Dust,
Wizard's Ring, Extreme Potion, Quick Oil II, Adamant, Immortality
           Potion, Miracle Aroma

The Moon Forest is home to a lemming with high HP. You can choose to fight
it at night, per its request, but it's weaker during the day, so go for it!
The lemming and its flunkies will give you a run for your money.

Your prize is Moon Ore, which you can bring to the blacksmith in Harva. This
time, you do only get one weapon for the deal, so choose wisely.

STOREI VILLAGE
--------------
Required event: Heaven's Wing acquired.

Inn: 90G

Item Shop: Extreme Potion, Fairy Powder, Miracle Aroma, Premier Plums, Revival
Potion, Cure-all, Mana Eraser, Power Inert, Guard Inert, Quick
Inert, Magic Inert, Resist Inert, Transfer Stone, Magic Map

Weapon Shop: Zweihander, Bardiche, Arvarest, Wizard's Rod, Khanjar, Emerald
Tablet, Mind Armor, Clothes of the Spirits, All Save

This village is surrounded by mountains, in the northeast area of the world
map. There are a couple of treasure boxes in the upper right corner and to
the left. The NPCs will give you hints about the Ghost Ship.

GHOST SHIP
----------
Required event: Haunted Treasure acquired.

Treasures: Fruits of the Mystic Tree, Revival Potion, Magic Oil II, Extreme
Potion, Remedy of Titania, Orichalcum, Phoenix Wing, Nectar,
Miracle Aroma, Soul Ring, Sentinel Heart, Moon Ore, Goddess Robe,
           Crown of the Sun

If you got the Haunted Treasure from the Pirate's Hideout, the Ghost Ship
appears in the seas to the west of Storei Village. You could also wait for it
to come to you near the Travelers' Inn. This mobile dungeon has great loot,
so it's worth checking out.

Earthquake is a good spell against the enemies here. There's a puzzle about
which woman holds the true key (the one on the right).

VI. Conclusion [CONC]

Thanks to RPG lover Yuuki! His blog helped me out when I got stuck in a couple
of places. (http://yukiindoor.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-99.html)

Thanks to Kemco for this fun game!

Please write to me at [email protected] if you see any mistakes on this
guide, or have questions, comments, or recommendations. I played it through in
Japanese and switched to English to get the item and town names for the guide,
so the boss names might be different.
