==============================================================================
INTRODUCTION [HSS.IR]
==============================================================================

Hot Springs Story is a Simulation game released on the iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad
by developer Kairosoft Co. Ltd, makers of Game Dev Story. This time round,
you manage a Hot Springs Inn, where you can build facilities, attract guests,
expand your land... The list goes on. The game "ends" after 15 years, where
your Clear Points will be calculated, but you can continue playing after that.

I originally wanted to write up a guide for the Investment "tech tree" as I
often found myself wondering what the requirements for certain items/targets
were. Along the way I ended up experimenting with the game mechanics, such as
scenery, so now I'm writing a guide on the key gameplay features. Some parts
of the guide (or maybe all?) may tend to be rather verbose, do bear with me
if that's the case. :X

HOWEVER, I feel that a lot of the fun comes from figuring out what to do
yourself, so if you've only just started, you might want to try things out
and experiment with the game instead of looking at this guide straight away
(especially regarding the layouts).

For reference, the x-axis (left/right) will be along the front gate, the y-
axis (up/down) will be where your future side gates will be. All prices are
in terms of Yen (you can change it to dollars in the Settings), but for
convenience I'll list them in the guide as $. In the game, 100 Yen = $1.

ALSO, for all/any points to be confirmed/verified/revised/whatever, check the
Future Updates section for a consolidated list. Mostly for the stuff in
Items/Investments section. I'll include the information inside their
respective areas as well, but the Future Updates section will serve as a
glossary of sorts.

BASICS [HSS.BA]
==============================================================================

You start off with a 12x9 inn, along with a Bath (M) (men's bath), 2 Tatami
Rooms, a Vending Machine and several decorations, along with $500,000. If you
start running low on money (~$40,000), the game will provide you with an
additional $150,000. The game will deduct a maintenance fee every day, so
only build what you need. This also applies later on in the game, when your
maintenance fees can be $100k or more. The game doesn't penalize you (e.g.
game over) for being in the red though. I've had -$300k and the game still
went on. But that was just for testing, if you ever reach that point you'll
probably be better off starting over...

As you begin new tasks (e.g. building facilities, placing floors etc.) the
game will brief you about them. There's also a (lengthy) Help section under
System > Help. You can just skip through it as you will learn about the
gameplay as you playthrough, but if you're going to read through this guide,
you have probably read through it already. That or you wouldn't mind reading
through it, since it's probably 1000 times shorter than this guide.

Anyway, in this game, you will have guests which are coined as "Targets". You
start off with Student, Housewife, Biz-Man, Biz-Woman and Antique Dlr, and
unlock additional ones through investments. Check out the Investments and
Targets sections for more information. Generally, you unlock new targets by
getting 30 (it is usually 30, but it may vary) Popularity in a certain
target, which will open up an investment opportuniy to unlock a new one, and
the chain continues. Your Inn Popularity (which determines the number of
guests which will visit your inn) starts off at 15, and increases with the
popularity level of your guests, so always work on increasing them and
unlocking new targets.

Likewise for facilities, generally you will unlock them through investments,
most of which involve inviting guests over to your inn, and if the "Pass"
your inn (i.e. obtain enough satisfaction during their stay), you will unlock
a new facility. For more information about the unlock criteria of the
investments and the "Pass" mark of the guests themselves, check the
Investments section. For the Western Room and Massage Chair, you will be able
to unlock them by buying their upgrades in the store.

Scenery (or decorations as I will usually refer them to) are typically
unlocked by buying several of each. Again, refer to the Investments section.
For scenery effects, check the Scenery section. As will be mentioned, it is
important to keep your Scenery high in the game.

In Year 1 Month 6, you will be able to enter your first guide ranking
contest, following that you will be able to enter, and have the results
announced, in Months 3 and 9 of every year. For more information, refer to
the Guides section.

In Year 1 Month 7, the store will be open for you to buy various consumables
(used to upgrade facilities) and decorations (besides Pine Tree and
Hydrangea, you will have to buy them from the store, before they will appear
in your inventory, after that you have to spend more money again to place
them in your inn). When you buy an item, the next one will increase in cost.
Besides items, you will be able to purchase Land Deeds and upgrades. Refer to
the Items section for details.

In Year 1 Month 11, the Mayor will visit you and unlock the opportuniy to
carry out investments. At this point everything else is pretty much up to you
to unlock yourself.

For general tips and strategies to get you started (and also for later parts
of the game), refer to the Strategies/Tips section below.

==============================================================================
EVENTS [HSS.EV]
==============================================================================

There are pretty much only 3 events in HSS:

Voting Results - Months 3 & 9
In the month beforehand, at 12 PM (or 0:00 PM as shown in-game) there will be
a message saying that the results will be announced next month. Although the
vote count will be removed then, the game will still count votes. Results
will be announced at 12 PM the following month, and you can apply again. Read
more in the Guides section.

Golden Week - Month 5
At 11 AM the game will prompt you about this. After a while, tons of guests
will start to come to your inn. Unless you have been building nothing but
rooms, the guests will usually be able to fill up almost all your rooms (with
maybe 1 or 2 empty or short depending on inn's popularity and number of
rooms). You'll want to have enough rooms to accommodate everyone. Eventually,
as you progress, you'll be able to earn enough money from the guest for that
one day alone to cover the building and maintenance.

Others:
At 12 AM (or 0:00 AM) every day, the game will deduct a maintenance fee. The
game will also auto-save then, and store inventory will re-stock (depending
on your game progress). Guests will start to go back to their rooms to sleep,
but will finish up whatever activity they are doing. When all the guests are
sleeping the game will speed up to 9 AM, when guests start checking out/going
about their activities if they're staying on. New guests will start checking
between 12-5 PM (may extend as the game progresses).

There's also the "end-game" at Year 16 Month 3, check the End-game section
for more details.

==============================================================================
STRATEGIES/TIPS [HSS.ST]
==============================================================================

Here are some general tips and strategies when playing the game. I might
repeat some of my comments in previous sections. If you didn't want to read
through everything else, here's the key points. :P

Starting tips:

- Always work on improving your scenery, it helps to boost your facilities'
popularity and price, and you will need it for the Relaxing Springs Guide.

- Scenery effects depend on the facility placement. You'll get the full
effects of a decoration if you place it right next to a facility, and half if
placed diagonally. For the full details, check the Scenery section.

- Compatible facilities (e.g. Room and Vending Machine) give 0.5
compatibility bonus to the listed facilities per effect (in this case, 0.5 to
both). The placement of facilities to get maximum compatibility is not as
important as having high scenery and bath effects (which generally adds more
to compatibility, and furthermore the bonuses cannot get reduced). For more
details, check the compatibility list under the Items section.

- As mentioned, build your facilities and flooring such that there is a clear
path from the entrance. Having different sections catered to different groups
will help to reduce walking distance/time, so the guests can visit more
facilities in their stay and spend more.

- Advertise does not seem to help as much in the early years when your Inn
Popularity is low. You'll be better off spending the money elsewhere. Only
start Advertising when you have higher profits, maybe $100-150k a month.

- Try to get Rank 1 in the Glamour Springs guide early (shouldn't be too
difficult, you can probably get this around Year 3 or so), this gives you the
Glamour Seed which gives +1 base compatibility to Females for the facility
you use it on. I suggest using it on the female bath, which will help to
increase the satisfaction guests get from using it.

- Use Milk on Bath (W) to get LV1 Silky Smooth.

Mid-game/general tips:

- You are meant to remove parts (or all) of your inn and re-build it as and
when necessary: when you unlock new facilities, decorations etc.

- Allocate different sections of your inn to cater to different groups:
Male/Female, Youth/Adults/Seniors. These include Bath Effects and compatible
facilities. It's better to separate them then trying to squeeze all the bath
effects together. It's possible, but you'll only get 1-2 levels. Unless you
somehow manage to find an insane layout that lets you get 3 levels of
everything, do let me know. :P

- That said, you can use the Fame and Glamour Seeds (by getting Rank 1 in the
Top 100 Springs and Glamour Seed guides respectively) to boost the
compatibility of your baths. The Fame Seed gives +1 to Jacuzzi, Spa and
Springerade/Silky Smooth, so you'll only need to get 2 more levels each, if
you're looking to max out various effects on one bath. The Glamour Seed adds
+1 compatibility to all Female age groups, making it easier to max the
compatibility rating.

- Whether you want to improve Male/Female baths separately, or do so by age
groups, it's up to you, feel free to experiment. That's what makes the game
fun anyway. :D

- When your inn starts becoming popular, make sure to build additional
Front/Side gates and Receptions to facilitate the entry of guests. This is
especially important during Golden Weeks (Month 5) and when you Advertise. If
you don't have more entry points guests may end up checking in at 11 PM, go
to sleep, and check out again the next morning without visiting the other
facilities. Sure, they still spend money on Rooms, but they could've spent
more money visiting other facilities as well.

- Regarding those who stay for more than 1 day: their benefits are that they
won't have to check in again, which saves time from the queuing, if any, and
walking from the entrance to their room. However, they will only pay for
using Rooms on the first day, so don't just spam Price Seeds on Rooms.

Post-game tips:

- For the Large Baths, which are 2x3, scenery bonuses are only applied to the
left-most 2x2 portion of the bath:
BBX
BBY
If you place decorations where their 2-tile perimeter only covers the XY
areas, you won't get the scenery bonus. This applies to facility effects too,
or namely the placement of facilities to get bath effects. And on the subject
of Large Baths, the only entrance it has is on the X-tile, so you only need a
clear path to that, either from the top or to the right.

- Regarding the carrying over of Bath effects (refer to the End-game
section), equivocal suggests:
1) Obtaining the Large Bath in the first playthrough, doesn't matter if you
get it after Y16M3 since it'll still carry over. If you do manage to get it
before that, you can start applying bath effects to it.
2) Large Baths get carried over in the second playthrough from the start, so
just build it and start applying bath effects (refer to equivocal's layout in
the Layouts section). Also, use Fame Seed on either the female or male bath.
3) Same as above, but use the Fame Seed on the other bath.
In this way you can have both the Large Baths with max effects, and instead
of having other facilities to obtain the effects you can place decorations to
boost their Scenery. Also that frees up the Ponds for you to get Forever
Young on regular baths, or you could also use them for their huge Scenery
bonus.

==============================================================================
FACILITIES [HSS.FA]
==============================================================================

There are three types of items in the Build Menu: 1) Environmental, or
decorations, as I'll refer them to. 2) Facilities, but for convenience I'll
refer to all buildings as such. 3) Stores.

----------------------------------
Environmental | Cost | Scenery |
----------------------------------
Floor | 2000 | -- |
Stone Floor | 2000 | -- |
Pine Tree | 10000 | 6 |
Hydrangea | 12000 | 6 |
Natural Stone | 14000 | 10 |
Azalea | 16000 | 12 |
Lantern | 18000 | 13 |
Bamboo | 22000 | 16 |
Maple Tree | 24000 | 18 |
Plum Tree | 26000 | 18 |
Pond | 100000 | 26 |
Front Gate | 50000 | -- |
Side Gate | 50000 | -- |
----------------------------------

For a detailed list of scenery bonuses and changes in seasons, check the
Scenery section.

All Popularity (Pp), Price (Prc) and Scenery (S) values are base values
without any bonuses. For the Compatibility values, .5/1 refers to half or one
full heart.

M = Male, F = Female, Y = Youth, A = Adults, S = Seniors, G = Groups

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

As will be mentioned in the Scenery section: Large Baths are 2x3, scenery
bonuses are only applied to the left-most 2x2 portion of the bath:
BBX
BBY
If you place decorations where their 2-tile perimeter only covers the XY
areas, you won't get the scenery bonus. This applies to facility effects too,
or namely the placement of facilities to get bath effects. The only entrance
it has is on the X-tile, so you only need a clear path to that, either from
the top or to the right. Large Baths allow 2 people to bathe at the same
time, but only 1 person can be at the X spot at any time for changing. If you
have a lot of guests queueing up it'll pretty much be the same as using a
standard bath. By the time one guest finishes changing to go out while the
next changes to go in, the other guest would've finished bathing already, so
essentially you'll only have 1 person bathing at a time. Also, Large Baths
can't be used by groups unless they have the Fast Friends effect. (thanks to
equivocal for bringing this up!)

About compatibility:
By placing a facility that is compatible to another at most 2 tiles away,
either one or both of the facility's compatibility with the specified (all
means all age groups for both genders) group will increase by 0.5 (seen in
the compatibility menu as half a green heart). Conversely, if an effect goes
down it'll be by -0.5. This will not reduce the base compatibility though.

For exmaple, placing a Tatami Room next to a Pachinko Machine with no other
facilities nearby will not cause the compatibility to drop. Place another
Tatami Room next to the original though, and the two effects cancel out.
Place a Vending Machine, and the net effect becomes -0.5 (Pachinko) + 0.5
(Tatami) + 0.5 (Vending) = +0.5. And if you add another Karaoke Room the net
effect becomes 0 again. For gender-specific effects, an "All down" effect
will negate two gender effects. For example, placing a Tatami Room with a
Cafe (Men up) and a Fortuneteller (Women up) will give +0.5 to both Men and
Women, but if you put a Pachinko Machine (All down), both gender effects will
be negated and the Tatami Room will be at base compatibility. Group
compatibility remains the same as the base cannot be reduced.

The VIP Room will increase the compatibility of all facilities it is placed
next to, with the exception of Baths. Its own compatibility will not
increase.

Effect radius:
Y Y Y Y Y
Y Y Y Y Y
Y Y F Y Y
Y Y Y Y Y
Y Y Y Y Y
For a facility at F, any other facility in the Ys will be considered "in
range". The same goes for most decorations (see Scenery section).

Here are a list of bath effects:

Jacuzzi: Seniors up
1 Vending Mchn, 2 Natural Stones

Fast Friends: Groups up
2 Karaoke Rooms, 1 Ping Pong Tbl, 1 Azalea
Adds +1.5 compatibility to Groups at Level 1, 3 at Level 2, +4 at Level 3

before groups can use them.

In-Crowd: Youth up
2 Souvenir Stnds, 2 Azaleas
Adds +1 compatibility to Youths at Level 1, +2 at Level 2, +3 at Level 3

Forever Young: Adults up, Seniors up
2 Fortunetellers, 2 Plum Trees, 1 Pond

Seniors
Note: In one playthrough you only have one Pond, so you won't be able to
increase the effect further. However, when you start a new game after your
first playthrough, some items are carried over. You will start off with 1
decoration each in your inventory, including the Pond, so you can have 2.
Furthermore, if you have the bath effect on a Large Bath before Y16M3 when
the game ends, the effect carries over to a new game, in this way you can
have LV3 of this effect. This only applies to Large Bath. For more
information, check the End-game section.

Springerade: Men up
2 Cafes, 2 Vending Mchns, 1 Bamboo
Adds +1 compatibility to Males at Level 1, +2 at Level 2, +3 at Level 3

ITEMS [HSS.IT]
==============================================================================

Here is a list of items that can be bought from the store, separated into
upgrades and consumables:

---------------------------------------------------------------
Upgrade | Cost | Effect |
---------------------------------------------------------------
Land Deed I | 20000 | +1 to top, +2 to left |
Land Deed II | 400000 | +2 to top, +2 to left |
Land Deed III | 500000 | +1 to top, +3 to left |
Land Deed IV | 1500000 | +3 to top, +1 to left |

Massage Chair | 150000 | Unlocks Massage Chair for purchase |
Western Room | 200000 | Unlocks Western Room for purchase |
---------------------------------------------------------------

Each Land Deed upgrade is unlocked by purchasing the preceding one. The first
one will be available in Year 2 Month 3. Also, purchasing Land Deed II
unlocks the Landlord target. You may have to wait awhile before he shows up
though (there will be a pop-up message). Massage Chair is available in Year 1
Month 9. Western Room is available when Popularity of Youth-grouped targets
reach a total of 120 (needs confirmation).

-------------------------
Decoration | Cost |
-------------------------
Natural Stone | 30000 |
Azalea | 50000 |
Lantern | 60000 |
Bamboo | 70000 |
Plum Tree | 90000 |
Maple Tree | 80000 |
-------------------------

Natural Stones are available for purchase when the store opens in Year 1
Month 7. Azalea is unlocked with the Botanical Garden investment; Lantern by
having 10 Natural Stones; Bamboo by building 20 Tatami Rooms. Exact
requirement for Plum Tree is yet to be confirmed as the previous concept of
unlocking it with 10 Bamboos only is wrong. Maple Trees are unlocked by
having 10 Plum Trees and Expand Store II (tentative).

Price Seed | 40000 | Adds to a facility's Price |
Popularity Seed | 30000 | Adds to a facility's Popularity |
Glamour Seed | ----- | +1.0 Compatibility for Females |
Fame Seed | ----- | Improves bath effects |
Gourmet Seed | ----- | +600 price +30 Popularity to Restaurants |
Relaxation Seed | ----- | Adds to a facility's base Scenery |
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Price Seed becomes available for purchase in Year 2 Month 4; Popularity Seed
in Year 2 Month 7. Honey is unlocked by the Garden investment; Milk by
Pasture and Flower Poster by Design Studio; Comic Books by Art Colony;
Mushrooms by Hiking Course.

All consumables have decreasing effectiveness the more you use them,
depending on the consumable and facility. The obvious ones are things like
Iced Tea, Milk etc. which will add to Popularity and Price at first, but
increase the price slightly after using it multiple times. Popularity Seeds
can give +10 to Rooms and Baths from the first time they are used until 16++
times (that's where I've reached). All items bought from the store will also
increase in cost as you purchase more of each. For the "cheap" items (Milk,
Honey, Comic Books etc.), the game suggests what facility to use it on for it
to be most effective (either Vending Machine, Restaurant, Stores for the
Comic Book or Western Room for the Flower Poster), but they can also be used
on Rooms, Baths and other facilities with varying effect. Most will add a
decent amount (around +500 Price/+5 Popularity) when used for the first time.
Some items will deduct Popularity, however. For Baths, it's Honey, for Rooms
it's Mushrooms.

For the Fame Seed, using it on a bath will increase the Jacuzzi, Spa and
gender-oriented effect by one (one heart). If you use it on Bath (M), it adds
to Springerade. If you use it on Bath (W), it adds to Silky Smooth. Using the
Gourmet Seed on other facilities will result in less bonuses, depending on
what you use it on. Cafes for example, receive less bonuses than Restaurants,
but more than Baths. Relaxation Seeds can give between +20 to +35 to a
facility. I've tested +20 on Pachinko Machines, +30 on most facilities and
+35 on Baths/Large Baths. This effect increases the base scenery, which means
it will apply to any/all of that same facility (same as Popularity seeds or
any other consumable). Since you can only build 1 Large Bath, it would be
best to use it on Rooms. You could use it on regular Baths too, but you'll
likely only have a few of them when you have settled on an optimal layout,
and even less if you use Large Baths. (thanks to equivocal for bringing this
up too, I had forgotten to test it out)

The values listed show how many times you can use a particular item on a
facility/store until you no longer get a popularity increase (minimum of +1).
= denotes no effect.
- denotes negative effect (popularity decreases).
The item naames should be pretty obvious, but Iced = Iced Tea, Green = Green
Tea, Sea = Seaweed, Mush = Mushroom, Poster = Flower Poster, Comic = Comic
Books.

SCENERY [HSS.SC]
==============================================================================

Each decoration adds a certain amount of scenery to a facility. Some of them
have increased bonuses in different conditions (e.g. Maple Trees in Autumn,
Lanterns at night).

The amount is dependent on the decoration itself as well as the position of
the decoration with respect to a facility. For 1-tile decorations, there are
5 positions (represented by Yellow/Yellow-Green/Green/Blue-Green/Blue tiles
when placing the decoration in-game) which adds different amounts of scenery
to a facility.

                    Legend: D = Decoration
B BG G BG B Y = Yellow, full effect
BG YG Y YG BG YG = Yellow-Green, 1/2 effect
G Y D Y G G = Green, 1/4 effect
BG YG Y YG BG BG = Blue-Green, 1/8 effect
B BG G BG B B = Blue, 1/10 effect

All values are rounded down. So for example, for a Bamboo:

1 2 4 2 1
2 8 16 8 2
4 16 B 16 4
2 8 16 8 2
1 2 4 2 1

Where the numbers represent the amount of scenery the Bamboo would give to a
facility if it was placed on it. Here is a list of decorations and their
associated values:

For reference, Spring = Months 3, 4, 5, Summer = 6, 7, 8, Autumn = 9, 10, 11,
Winter = 12, 1, 2)

---------------------------------------------------

Lantern | 13 | 6 | 3 | 1 | 1 |
Lantern (Night) | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 | 1 |
Bamboo | 16 | 8 | 4 | 2 | 1 |
Maple Tree | 18 | 9 | 4 | 2 | 1 |
Maple Tree (Autumn) | 22 | 11 | 5 | 2 | 2 |
Plum Tree | 18 | 9 | 4 | 2 | 1 |
Plum Tree (Spring) | 24 | 12 | 6 | 3 | 2 |
Plum Tree (Summer) | 20 | 10 | 5 | 2 | 2 |
Pond | 26 | SEE BELOW |
---------------------------------------------------

The exception to this is the Pond, which is a 2-tile decoration.

2 5 9 9 5 2
3 16 39 39 16 3
6 32 PO ND 32 6
3 16 39 39 16 3
2 5 9 9 5 2

For the usual Yellow, Green and Blue-Green positions, there are 2 different
values, with the most obvious being that of those directly above/below the
Pond giving +39 and +9. The Blue-Green spots can give +3 or +5 depending on
the placement.

Furthermore, for 2-tile facilities on the X-axis (i.e. Baths and Ping Pong
Tables), if you place them on both the +39 (Yellow) tiles, the scenery bonus
becomes +52. If you place them on both the +9 (Green) tiles, the bonus
becomes +12. If you place them anywhere else, the higher bonus will be in
effect (e.g. placing a Bath to the left of the Pond on the +6, +32 tiles will
only give +32 scenery). This applies to 2-tile facilities on the Y-axis
(Souvenir Stands, Baths) as well. If you place them on top of the Pond on the
+9, +39 tiles, the bonus will be +39. Note that you won't be able to get the
+52 bonus wherever you place the facility.

Special mention: For the Large Baths, which are 2x3, scenery bonuses are only
applied to the left-most 2x2 portion of the bath:
BBX

Generally, you will want to have as much scenery bonus on your facilities as
possible. First off, they provide a bonus to your popularity and price. It
starts off with every 1 scenery to +1 popularity and every 5 scenery to
+$100. The bonus starts dropping off when it reaches 25 popularity (25
scenery) and $2000 (100 scenery), i.e. you will get less bonuses from added
scenery. Secondly, scenery affects your score when you apply for the Relaxing
Springs guide.

Besides decorations, you can increase scenery by targeting certain customers
who, from time to time, will increase the scenery of the facilities they
visit. They will be indicated as "Facilities Up" in the Targets menu. These
include: Illustrator, Noblewmn, Painter, Researcher, Rich Heir and Tea
Expert. From my own experience, "low-tier" targets like Illustrators and
Researchers will generally add on to Tatami/Western Rooms, whereas "high-
tier" targets like Noblewmn and Rich Heirs will also add on to facilities
such as Massage Chairs, Baths etc.

However, after seeing a forum post I decided to verify this by loading to a
previous save after the game prompts you saying that XXX increased the
scenery of YYY by ZZ, here's what I found. There were 4 cases of these which
occurred, 3 on my first playthrough. Of these, there was only 1 time where
the scenery did increase as stated. For the other times, there were no
changes at all. For these, I also re-loaded the game, and for 5 out of 6
times the bonus scenery prompt appeared again (which may mean that these
occurrences may be somewhat set to take place), but there were still no
changes.

My original theory was that each facility could only have its scenery
increased in this way once as I had one which was raised previously, but had
no effect the second time. On my second playthrough though, the first time
this occurred, there was no actual change to the scenery. Conclusion? Either
it's glitchy (although I've had no problems with the game so far, same goes
for its predecessor, Game Dev Story) or there's some sort of unknown mechanic
involved. Unknown to me, at least. So if you know, or manage to figure it
out, do let me know!

In conclusion, you should start improving scenery early, and do so throughout
the course of the game. It'll also make your life easier when you're trying
to get Rank 1 in the Relaxing Springs guide. For my first playthrough I
concentrated on getting compatibility bonuses between buildings and bath
effects, and it took me awhile before I managed to get Rank 1.

INVESTMENTS [HSS.IN]
==============================================================================

There are a few types of Investments, the common ones being those which
unlock new Targets, and usually require you to get a certain target up to 30
Popularity. Another would be Facility/Decoration unlocks, either by inviting
a guest to stay over for a day/night, or simply by paying for it (as with the
other Investments). Below is a full list, unless otherwise specified, if a
target is listed as a criteria, the game requires you to get his/her
Popularity rating up to 30.

(thanks to Sphinxie for the Bamboo criteria!)

ND means the next day at 11 AM. For Advertise, no matter what time you use
it, as long as it's before 12 AM (or 0 AM), it will be completed in the
morning the next day.

In Year 1 Month 11, the Mayor will visit you with investment proposals, which
is when you will be able to start investments.

@ Some people have gotten Bamboo with 10 Tatami Rooms, some with 20, I myself
included. If you don't get it at 10 just build another 10.

* I've had Beautician unlock with Antique Dlr getting +5 in one case, and Biz-
woman getting +6 in another, in both situations the total Female Popularity
added up to 204. There was no unlock when Biz-man levelled up instead, so
this is my theory. Refer to the Future Updates section for more information
about my testing methods.

** Either Pastry Chef = 45 or Manager = 65. In my game the Pastry Chef
levelled up to 45, there was nothing for about 1 second, then the Manager
levelled up to 66, and the investment prompt appeared right after. I also
completed Famous FT in the morning, but it should depend on either the Pastry
Chef or Manager.

*** For the Expand Store Investments, I got them when I was buying items. The
message pops up right after I double-tap on an item to purchase it. For the
first upgrade I had the investment appear after buying 55 items, including 1
upgrade (Massage Chair) and various consumables and Natural Stones.

**** After you have 10 Natural Stones (including any carried over from
previous games, and whether you have them in your inventory or whether they
are built should not matter, based on the Pond investment), the investment
will become available 2 months later at 4 PM.

# It either has to be unlocked (i.e. Investment completed giving you the new
Target), or reach Popularity 20. Since I got these data from my second
playthrough, I started with a bonus 20 Pop carried over, so I can't be sure.
I think it should be the former though, as there are other Investments that
can be accessed simply by unlocking Targets.

^ I have received feedback from a number of users who have unlocked Maple
Trees without unlocking Plum Trees. At the moment there doesn't seem to be
any specific (known) criteria, and I can't test it out since for me I
unlocked it the other way round. In general, you should unlock this with
Expand Store II and other scenery purchased (Azalea/Natural
Stone/Bamboo/Lantern). (thanks to Aichon, Anastasia, Michael, siuche and Tim
for the feedback!)

^^ There have been people who got the Pond investment with 20 Natural Stones
or Lanterns (be it 10/10 or a combination), but I myself only got it with 20
each. Before this I had 10/10 but didn't unlock anything for a long time. At
some point I had 20/19 and after a few more months I bought 1 additional
Lantern to make it 20/20, and the investment unlocked the following month. At
that time I had most of them built already, so it shouldn't matter if you
have them in your inn or inventory. It may be possible that the Pond also
requires the other plants (Bamboo, Azalea, Maple and Plum Trees) to be
unlocked. In my first playthrough I had more than 20 Stones and Lanterns
each, but the investment didn't unlock. At that time I didn't have Plum Trees
unlocked (which means no Maple Trees either). At one point I just started
buying loads of everything (I was already in Year 19), after which I unlocked
Plum Trees, and Maple Trees shortly after that, and at the same time, I
unlocked Pond as well. But unless you're trying to find the specific
requirements like me, I suggest you just buy tons of everything. :P

In any case you'll probably unlock it without much problem as long as you
focus on improving scenery, since you'll be buying decorations when you can.
The reason why I unlocked it so late in my first game was because I barely
had any decorations around, and like I mentioned earlier, that gave me
problems when trying to get Rank 1 for the Relaxing Springs guide.

For the invite-a-guest investments, you'll want to reserve a room that's
close to as many facilities as possible to reduce the walking time/distance,
which means that the guest has more time to visit other facilities, and in
turn increase his/her satisfaction. Generally, your inn layout should be like
this. Other tips would be to use a Western/Tatami Room depending on their age
group, use a room with the highest popularity (or scenery, generally they
should be similar) and compatibility. Once you unlock bath effects, use rooms
closest to the appropriate bath as they tend to visit the nearest bath. Note
that if it reaches 12 AM, they will stop what they are doing and return to
their rooms, be it queuing for a facility outside, or standing at the
browsing area of a Souvenir Shop getting ready to buy. If you really have to,
demolish a section of your inn and re-build it with a bath with the
appropriate bath effect, Western or Tatami Room, and surround it with
facilities to increase the needed compatibility. You should also put high
popularity (i.e. those you boosted with items) facilities nearby too, as the
guest might use them. In any case, I've listed my observations from inviting
them. __P refers to the Popularity level with all bonuses, _C refers to the
Compatibility, +__ refers to the satisfaction from usage of the facility. The
most important facilities are your rooms and baths, unless your popularity
for the others (e.g. Vending Machine) are really high don't expect to get
much satisfaction from them.

Architect (Senior, Male)
60P Tatami Room +28 = almost full, Restaurant +26 = full, Bath +26, Vending
Machine +15, Sleep

You'll have no problems with this one.

Beautician (Youth, Female)
69P Western Room +23, Fortuneteller +11, Room, 58P/1C Bath +20 = Pass,
Massage Chair, Room, Vending Machine +3, Room, Reading Room +3, Sleep
Failed with 60P Western Room, 58P/1C Bath

This might be tricky since it appears early on. Getting your Popularity for
Western Room and Bath to around 100 should do the job, unless you have
Fortuneteller unlocked, which would help. Has to be placed near the Room
though, otherwise it will either take too much time to walk there and back,
or she won't visit it at all.

Cafe Owner (Adult, Male)
60P Tatami Room +20, Restaurant +20 = 6/7 of bar filled, Bath +15 = Pass,
Vending Machine +3, Room, Massage Chair +4, Room, Souvenir Stand, Sleep

Should be fairly easy.

Chimpan Z (Youth, Male)
227P Western Room +25, Souvenir Stand, Room, 232P (LV3 In Crowd effect) Bath
+24 = 99% full, 70P Vending Machine, Room, 160P Restaurant +12 = Pass, Sleep

189P Western Room +21, Arcade, Room, 198P (LV3 In Crowd effect) Bath +22 =
Almost full, Vending Machine, Room, Massage Chair, Sleep

You'll probably want to have around 250 Popularity for Room and Bath. You'll
need even more for the bath if it doesn't have the In Crowd (Youth up)
effect. This should just barely get you the pass mark, if not another visit
to a Restaurant/Vending Machine will do the job. If not, either reload or re-
invite. Sometimes you will get 0 satisfaction from a facility on one try, but
+?? on another.

Famous FT (Senior, Female)
60P Tatami Room +13, 3C Bath +20, Vending Machine, Room, Massage Chair, Room,
Souvenir Stand, Room, 86P Restaurant +14 = Pass, Sleep

If you have problems just raise the Popularity for your Room and Bath.

Kairobot (Youth, Male)
281P Western Room +22, 381 (LV3 In Crowd) Bath +26 = almost full, Vending
Machine +2 = Pass, Room, Souvenir Stand, Restaurant, Sleep

Passing mark is 50. I've failed once with the exact same setup, but going to
the Vending Machine did not give a +2. Having 400 Popularity should be the
safest bet, otherwise around 300 for Room and 400 for Bath might work. I've
also failed with:
190P Western Room +17, (LV3 IC) Bath +17, Vending Machine +1, Room,
Restaurant +6 = 6/7 bar filled, Sleep

Tea Master (Senior, Female)
125P Tatami Room +18, (LV3 Jacuzzi) Bath +14, Vending Machine, 85P Massage
Chair +8 = Pass, Room, Restaurant +11, Sleep

Shouldn't have too much problem with this.

You should only have difficulty with Chimpan Z and Kairobot, or if you have
been upgrading your facilities religiously you might not even have a problem
with them. By late-game you'll be able to spend on Popularity Seeds and
decorations with no problem anyway, so just spam Seeds on your Rooms and
Baths. As mentioned, the problem with Beautician is that she appears early on
in the game when you might have more difficulty trying to get a Pass.

In general, after checking into their rooms they will visit 1-3 facilities
before checking into their room again, visit another, checking back, and if
there's still time, visit another... etc. The satisfaction levels (as with
those of regular guests I suppose) are random. When I re-load the game to try
again, checking into the room can give +- 2 difference, and some facilities
may give 0 on one occasion, but maybe between 1-5 on a retry. So if you're
off the mark by just a little, you may want to do so.

After you complete Chimpan Z and Kairobot they will also visit you as a
guest. (thanks to various users for mentioning this)

* Needs confirmation whether Biz-woman has to be at 30 or 50. Garden is a
must though.

Small notes:
For Hire Secretary, the game does not show a pop-up message as with most
Investments, instead there is a bubble which shows up at the bottom of the
screen.
For Move Large Firm, the usual "XXX recommended me" message does not appear.

--------------------------------------------------

You start off with just a few of them, and unlock new targets by investing in
er, investments as they are unlocked. Regarding the bonus effects,
Facilities, as mentioned earlier, provides a chance that a target will add to
a facility's scenery as he/she uses it. Items provide a chance that a target
will find an item in a facility. I've gotten simple items like Green Tea/Iced
Tea from "low-tier" targets such as Biz-man, and better items like Price
Seeds, Maple Trees and Milk from "high-tier" targets like Fortunetellers,
CEOs and Nobleman. Although there was one time a Biz-man found a Price Seed.
Just that one time though. :P

Presumably, as the names suggest, Stayers up increases the number of stayers
while Votes increase the number of votes in the bi-annual guides. Using the
Votes up bonus seems to help when the preferred target (see Guides section)
is at a low popularity, I've gotten Rank 1 that way (as compared to lower
ranks when using the suggested targets). Money increases the amount of money
spent on a facility. To side-track a bit, although each facility has a base
price and bonus price (from items and scenery), some customers will pay more
than that depending on: 1) their level of satisfaction 2) whether they have
the Money up bonus. I'm not quite sure whether Advertising refers to the
selection of the 3 Targets in the menu, or the "Advertise" investment, or
both. Again, if anyone knows, do drop me an email about it.

Gourmet Springs | 13,200K | 88 |
Relaxing Springs | 14,100k | 78 |
--------------------------------------

Every guide will have 3 suggested target groups, to view them press the
'Hint' button at the bottom left corner when viewing the guide. As you unlock
more targets, the game will reflect the changes, if any. Below is a list of
the Guides and more detailed information. For the harder ones I included my
statistics for when I achieved Rank 1. Your score will be based on your
facilities' popularity, with some guides having additional requirements.

Local Springs
Unlock in Year 1 Month 6 automatically
Targets: Housewife, Hiker, Student
Rewards: $100,000, 2 Popularity Seeds, 2 Price Seeds

Perfectural Springs
Unlock by getting Rank 1 in Local Springs Guide
Targets: Nurse, Student, Biz-woman
Rewards: $200,000, 2 Popularity Seeds, 2 Price Seeds

Touring Japan
Unlock by getting Rank 1 in Perfectural Springs Guide
Targets: TV Host, Pop Singer, Biz-man
Rewards: $300,000, 2 Popularity Seeds, 2 Price Seeds

Le Nichelin Guide
Unlock by getting Rank 1 in Touring Japan Guide
Targets: Rich Couple, Rich Heir, First Lady
Rewards: $400,000, 2 Popularity Seeds, 2 Price Seeds

* Don't bother trying for this unless you've unlocked Rich Missus and above,
unless you just want the reward (without the "high-class" type of targets, I
had 137 points, Rank 69 and $260k).

Glamour Springs
Unlock in Year 1 automatically (you will be able to enter it in Month 9)
Targets: Biz-woman, Booth Babe, Pop Singer
Rewards: $200,000, 1 Popularity Seed, 1 Price Seed, 1 Glamour Seed

Top 100 Springs
Unlock in Year 12 Month 4
Targets: Prgrmmr, Biz-woman, Painter
Special: Bath effects affect score
Rewards: $240,000, 1 Popularity Seed, 1 Price Seed, 1 Fame Seed

* The first time I applied I had 4 Baths with 3* Jacuzzi and 2 Baths without
effects, I managed Rank 19. Afterwards I added 2 more Baths with 2* Jacuzzi
each and got Rank 1.

Gourmet Springs
Unlock condition may either require upgrading Restaurant a certain number of
times (at least, that's what happened to me the second time, should require
around 10-15 upgrades), or if you do nothing it'll unlock in Year 8 Month 10.
Targets: Nobleman, Biz-woman, Novelist
Special: Popularity of Restaurants affect score
Rewards: $220,000, 1 Popularity Seed, 1 Price Seed, 1 Gourmet Seed

* When I got this I had 4 Restaurants with Popularity of 123/129/133/137.
Building multiple restaurants seem to help more, I jumped from Rank 20 to 2
by building 1 more restaurant, in between that I only used 1 Popularity Seed
(+10). After that it took roughly one more +10 to all Restaurants to get Rank
1.

Relaxing Springs
Unlock in Year 5 Month 6
Targets: Prgrmmr, Pop Singer, Novelist
Special: Scenery of Facilities affect score
Rewards: $250,000, 1 Popularity Seed, 1 Price Seed, 1 Relaxation Seed

* For information on scenery, check out the Scenery section. Facilities with
the most scenery will give you the most votes. For example I had a bath with
120 scenery, and various guests gave it 24 votes each, and they were listed
as the top voters.

Here's a rough guide to the ranking based on the scores, as well as the
associated rewards. From this you can see that some guides will give you
better rewards even if you don't get first place, so use it to decide which
guide to apply for if you can't quite get first place for a particular one.
I've rounded down/up the figures to the nearest tens but it's probably safe
to round it off to the nearest fifty/hundred depending on the guide. If there
are question marks it means I've yet to determine the figure. I'll update the
scorings as and when, feel free to send me your own scores (and rank and
reward) to add to the list.

-----------------------------------------------
Guide | R1 | R2 | R2 $ |
-----------------------------------------------
Local Springs | 549 | ???-??? | ???k |
Prefectural Springs | 3000 | 2170-2180 | 160k |
Touring Japan | 5015 | 3910-4200 | 260k |
Le Nichelin Guide | 2040 | 1680-1987 | 360k |
Glamour Springs | 1430 | 1010-1020 | 160k |
Top 100 Springs | 5020 | ????-???? | ???k |
Gourmet Springs | 2360 | 1690-1950 | 180k |
Relaxing Springs | 6080 | 5050-5980 | 220k |
-----------------------------------------------

I actually have a bunch of other results but I figured the important thing
would be Rank 1 anyway, and at most Rank 2. If anyone wants me to add more
results, let me know.

==============================================================================
END-GAME [HSS.EN]
==============================================================================

After 15 years (i.e. at Year 16 Month 3 11 PM), the game will prompt you
saying that the first part of the game is over and calculate your Clear
Points, which is based on:

Final Money / 500
Compatibility Guide x 800
Investments x 300
Targets x 350
Guests x 10
Inn Popularity x 100
Tophies x 5000
Max Bath effects x 3000
Max Scenery x 90
                     ------------
                     Total Points

Compatibility Guide refers to how many you have listed under the Info >
Compat Menu. So even if you know what goes with what you still need to place
them manually to unlock their 'page'. Inn Popularity is based on the
popularity of your guests, for my game with all of them maxed out at 100 (you
can still 'level' them up, but only their money increases), my inn Popularity
was at 441. Considering there are 49 Targets, it could be that each one is
worth 9 Inn Popularity. Although as you might remember (or not), for the
Garden and Fashion Show investments, there was an additional prompt message
saying that "News of Flower Garden/Fashion Show boosted popularity!".
For my second game my Inn Popularity increased by 1/2, but at the same time a
guest levelled up so I wasn't sure. In my third game for testing purposes my
Inn Popularity did not change. For the Fashion Show in my second game, it
increased by 7 approximately, which would be too much even if I had other
guests levelling up, so most likely that's an effect of the investment as
well. I've yet to confirm it on my third game. Assuming that is so, then
either the Inn Popularity calculation is more complex than each target being
worth 9, or the Model (unlocked by Fashion Show) is worth 7 at the start and
only 2 subsequently.

Anyway. Max Bath effects refers to the most number of effects you have on any
Bath. Scenery refers to the same for any given facility. And then the game
tells you you can continue playing, but your score will not affect your
"online ranking". In the help section it also mentions an online leaderboard.
I have no idea what this means as the game isn't Game Center or OpenFeint or
Plus+ enabled, their Kairo Park (their mobile app web) website doesn't have
anything about this, from what I can tell their official Kairosoft website
has nothing either. A quick Google search doesn't show up anything either.
You can view your high score in the gam though. Maybe time will tell...

Anyway. After "completing" the game, there will be some stuff you can unlock:
1) You can change the game speed setting to Fast, which will be a big help in
general.

Various bonuses when you start a new game:
2) 1 each of any scenery you have unlocked will carry over to your new game,
either started from the second save slot or your current save. This includes
the Pond, which you can only get once in the game. You still have to unlock
them through investments to buy more, so you can get 2 Ponds this way.

3) The same goes for Large Baths and VIP Room, so if you have unlocked any of
them their will appear in your inventory at the start of your second game.
The related investments will not appear again though, so you can only have
one of each. (thanks equivocal!)

4) Facility compatibility effect charts and bath effect descriptions (under
Info > Compat and when you tap on the Bath to view its details) carry over,
if unlocked.

5) Guests will start out at 20% of the Popularity they had in Y16M3, so it'll
be easier to unlock the Kairobot (and basically all) investments).

6) Any bath effects you had on the Large Baths at Y16M3 will carry over.

(thanks to vo_0v for pointing out and brokencandle for verifying points 6 and
7!)

All decorations and facilities (namely Pond, Large Baths and VIP room which
you can only get 1 of) will carry over into new games even if you unlock them
after Y16M3. I unlocked my VIP room in Year 50++, and still had it in my new
game. HOWEVER, Bath effects on the Large Baths have to be unlocked before the
game "ends" for them to carry over. All levels of effects (from facility
placements AND the use of Fame Seed) will carry over as well (becomes base
effect, not bonus), so you can have multiple 3 stars at the start. (thanks to
equivocal and FateMortis for verifying!)

Copy-pasted from the Strategies section:
Regarding the carrying over of Bath effects, equivocal suggests:
Young on regular baths, or you could also use them for their huge Scenery
bonus.

In relation to this, new games will carry over any/all bonuses from any/all
previous games, it doesn't matter which save you start the new game in. For
example, if you unlock Large Baths on one save and VIP Room (although
typically you'll have unlocked Large Baths before the VIP Room) on another,
when you start a new game you'll have both unlocked, regardless of where you
start the new game from. You'll probably realize this when/if you start a new
game on a separate save.

Note: This is for a 16x20 (i.e. at Land Deed IV) Inn. sokolov22 has also
gotten ~8600 votes for Top 100 Springs with this so you can refer to this if
you have problems with that guide, or if you want to get a high score for the
Bath Effect calculations. For reference cut-off point for Rank 1 for Top 100
Springs is approximately 5000. Each room is also boosted by having a Vending
Machine and Massage Chair in their range, as well as a Cafe and Fortuneteller
for the Male and Female sections. .., as mentioned above, are empty spots,
typically you'll want to place Plum Trees in Columns 4 and 17 for more
scenery, and possibly Rooms + Plum Trees in the left-/right-most columns.

Front portion is used for Receptions and any other facilities (e.g. you can
put Karaoke Rooms, since they bring down the compatibility of Rooms in
range). If you want to include side gates, you can shift the
Cafe/Fortuneteller to the XX marks of the same row, but this will make the
Vending Machines inaccessible. And you would also have to build pathways to
the CA/FT in the center. Alternatively, you can shift the entire layout left
by 1 grid and put the CA/FT in Column 1 in the original Column 4. OR, you
could just put the side gate in the yet-unlocked Rows 17-20. And also in the
first few rows.

Lastly, the Reading Rooms in Row 10 can be replaced with any facility (Tea
Room, another Western Room or Restaurant if you find that people are queuing
up for the other one) of your preference/scenery. Thanks to HC for reminding
me, when solokov22 posted this he had yet to unlock all the facilities.

Note: You can also put in 2 rows of scenery in Colums 4&5 instead, that'll
give 10 extra Scenery for those having "full coverage", and assuming you use
Plum Trees (+18). Regarding the effects of the Pachinko Machine and Karaoke
Room in C8, they will cancel out the Vending Machine and Room bonuses from
C3, but there'll still be bonuses from the Massage Chair and Cafe. With the
1.5 compatibility for Groups from the Fast Friends effect, groups can now use
the Large Bath. This layout can be used if you want to carry over 1 level of
all effects.

FUTURE UPDATES [HSS.FU]
==============================================================================

Instead of posting it all over the place I figured I would consolidate
everything that needs to be confirmed here. Note that: by verifying/double-
confirming something (usually unlock criteria) it means I have either
achieved something twice with the same method, or someone has confirmed the
same results. By revising it means I have changed the unlock conditions based
on the scenario which occurred for me (i.e. hypothesized), and needs to be
verified by doing it again. I'll also include omissions/things to be
changed/added here.

Facilities:
- To include Level 2 and Level 3 compatibility values for the Forever Young
bath effect.

Items:
- Verify Western Room is unlocked by having Popularity of Youth targets at a
total of 120.
- Revise exact unlock criteria for Plum Tree.
- Verify Maple Trees are unlocked by having 10 Plum Trees and Expand Store
II. This was the case for my second game: I had 11 Natural Stones, 11 Bamboo
(had to buy 1 more for effects), 10 Lanterns, 10 Plum Trees for more than 1
year without anything, after I invested in Expand Store II Maple Trees became
available. However, in my first game, I had 23 Lanterns, 39 Natural Stones,
12 Bamboo and 9 Azalea and I still hadn't unlocked Plum Trees. Not sure what
happened for it to unlock then, but shortly afterwards (about 1-2 seconds
gap) Maple Trees unlocked and Pond followed immediately. One possible theory
is that Maple Trees only require 1) Plum Trees to be unlocked (by this I mean
the investment, as I hadn't had time to invest, much less build it), 2)
Expand Store II completed, 3) possibly a certain number of Natural Stones or
Lanterns or Bamboos or Azaleas, or... 4) a certain target to reach a certain
Popularity. By that time I had unlocked almost every target, so finding this
out will require a test game ^, which I am doing currently. 5) Once past end-
game stage there are no more buy 10/20 XX to unlock YY criteria, i.e. you
just have to unlock something, and anything else after that will unlock too.
Should be unlikely though. At most there are multiple possible unlock
conditions.

Investments:
- Verify unlock criteria for Beautician, Expand Store I.
- Revise UC for Cafe Owner, Expand Store II.
- As above for Plum and Maple Trees.
- Verify if Biz-woman needs to be at 30 or 50 Popularity for Design Studio.
- I'll try to commandeer my Dad's iPhone to test those with #, where I'm not
sure if the Popularity needs to be at 20, or if the target simply needs to be
unlocked.

Guides:
- I've yet to determine the exact conditions for Gourmet Springs, unless
there are multiple like I mentioned. Either way, to be verified.
- Rank 2 scoring ranges and winnings.
- Possible lower ranks and scoring patterns.

Layouts: As and when there are any submissions.

Others: ???

AS OF Version 1.30: I'll be busy with other things so I probably won't be
able to do all the testings and stuff. I'll still update the guide with
layout submissions or any new information pointed out to me, but this will
probably be the final major revision for the next 2 months or so.

^ By test game I mean having one where I focus on 1 investment at a time. I
start off with unlocking any investments which only require items, then
progress from there. Those which require 10/whatever items, I will buy 9 of
them, leave the game running for a few months, buy the 10th, if it unlocks I
re-load and try again to make sure there isn't anything else affecting it
(like target level ups). This is the first test, hopefully when I'm done with
everything I can start another game to verify it. Would be easier if I had
another iDevice, but I don't. :( Heh. My Dad has an iPhone but he's mostly at
work so i can't exactly borrow it. If some kind soul wants to donate an iPad
to me (I'll take iPod Touch or iPhone 4 too), by all means! *End of
daydreaming* Anyway, if anyone wants to disprove a theory or verify it, I
would appreciate it as well (check below for my contact info).

Also, for Popularity related investments, I tested those by only Advertising
to a sole target to minimize others from coming (they'll still come anyway of
course, but less often) for one thing. Depending on the gender I'll remove
the other bath so they don't "level up". And then after they reach the
required amount (generally 30) I'll check if the investment unlocks, if it
does I'll re-load and try it again. The thing is, I can't quite bear to over-
write my old save so I'm saving the game on the auto-save slot. Which is
generally fine for this purpose but if I need to test out the decoration
investments, which may unlock 2 month after the criteria is met... Well,
basically I'll have to save over my old save, which I didn't, so I'll have to
do it the hard way by testing it in a future game. So yeah, I'm in a few
contests to win an iPad, hopefully I'll win one some time. -_-

Oh yeah, I also built limited rooms so the guests don't level up like crazy,
and I placed them away from each other so they only retain their base
compatibility (so they don't level up as much also). Reason being that in my
second game when I was for the most part playing normally while testing,
multiple guests would level up at the same time and confuse matters. In this
way, in the rare occasion I have multiple guests levelling up I'll just re-
load, and try again. To further prevent such a possibility, or actually, to
completely eliminate this possibility if a guest besides my intended target
checks in I'll destroy his/her room and kick him/her out. XD

But come to think of it I only need to do that if there are 2 groups who are
close to levelling up at the same time. Right. Anyway, this is how I found
out that Biz-woman + Biz-man = 30 = Yng Couple. And Female Popularity = 200 =
Beautician. But I'll need to try these again one more time to verify.
*END OF RANTING*
