Moving to Premium Land with less cost

I have 6 houses built on standard lots, but I have realised now that the premium lots are much better, much bigger footprint which I can build a bigger house to keep hopefully 3 couples living in. The problem is the vacant lot costs $20,000 or so and I just don't have that sort of money yet.

However, I thought I would try something and it worked. I moved my last sim and vacated the 6th house I built and demolished it, and when I tried to purchase the premium lot gain, it was only $2,900 or so. Win !

It makes a lot more sense to have bigger houses with two or three couples living in them. I will move three couples into the Premium house now and vacate another one or two of my standards and hopefully purchase another premium. Eventually, I'm planning on having three houses on Premium lots to keep all my sims in.
