When you level up you not only get access to brand-new vehicles buy you will also be able to customise the appearance of any racers you currently have. Customising the appearance of a racer is purely cosmetic and will not improve it's performance.
If you hit the bottom-centre of the screen you will activate a speed boost which will shoot you off at a very fast rate. This speed boost is best saved for straights or parts of the course you know well.
Keep an eye on your vehicle cover because once you have passed through three gates successfully the polarity is switched and you will need to change the colour of the gates you pass through.
