How do you make potions? I have lots of potion recipes but figure out how to use them. Thanks

You can buy a herbalist's or wizard's table for your house under the "Workshop" section of the Edit house menu. You can also go to the herbalist or wizard and use their tables although they don't like it if you do that too often.
You also need plants to create the potions (different ones depending on the "recipe") so you should be actively collecting from the forest and graveyard as well as planting seeds in your garden.
In fact, buying seeds (which are cheap) from the market and collecting plants (which are free) and then turning them into potions that you sell back to Almeric the merchant is a good way to make money as well as pass the time until you get more focus points to go on quests.
If you are unsuccessful in making a potion, it is usually because you need to increase your spirituality. Reading from a bookcase is a good way to do this, although it tires you out very quickly.
