Tap on the tv and select the program the Mission is asking your sim to watch. That's the only thing you can do really.

Unfortunately there is no option to watch stories when you tap on the tv. And the lifetime percentage doesn't rise doing this. I've spent days only to still be at 86% (which is where it started).
